Summary
The Vice President, Human Resources provides executive leadership, consultative advice, and strategy development to all aspects of Human Resources. He/she will collaborate with the senior leadership for Group Protection (GP) to drive business goals through the effective management of talent He/she will carry out duties in alignment with the short and long-term strategic and financial objectives for GP and Lincoln Financial Group (LFG). In addition, he/she will lead all aspects of Human Resources for GP which includes strategy development and execution, change leadership, performance management, organizational design, talent management and development, staffing and recruiting, compensation, Human Resource communications, and employee relations.
Responsibilities
**Execution** * Ensures the Human Resource services deliver to GP are meeting all objectives pertaining to quality, compliance, regulations, productivity, customer service, budget, and project management. * Plays a key role on GP SLT, providing appropriate and regular input to drive business decisions that will support the successful attainment of positive business results * Develops and directs the on-boarding of key senior hires to drive retention and speed time to productivity. * Leads the Human Resources organization’s focus on internal customer service at every touch point while simultaneously delivering operational effectiveness. * Maintains current knowledge of applicable Human Resource Federal/State laws and regulations. * Participates as a member of the Human Resource business partner team which provides shared learning, coaching, and guidance to colleagues and creates strong affiliation with the HR COEs.. **Strategy** * Ensures the Human Resource operational plans for GP are aligned with Lincoln Financial Group’s (LFG) overall business plans and specific strategic and tactical initiatives. * Advises senior leadership on HR strategies and risks, including but not limited to the following: performance management; organizational design; change management; talent management and development; staffing and recruiting; compensation; employee communications; and employee relations * Ensures the effective implementation, integration, and execution of the GP business strategy and strategic initiatives, aligning HR support to drive success and build future talent capacity. **Collaboration with Business** * Collaborates with SVP leader to develop the overall strategic vision for the Human Resource functional areas for Group Protection (GP). * Ensures the effective management of employee relations including: investigations; monitoring of corrective actions taken; conflict resolutions; and related documentation. * Ensures the documentation and monitoring of compliance related matters; meeting or exceeding all regulatory agency guidelines and standards as well LFG internal requirements * Ensures the development of business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for all Human Resource initiatives while obtaining the required acceptance for these initiatives. * Builds and maintains key relationships with internal (i.e. CEO, SLT, ELT, and other departments) business partners. **Leaderships** * Establishes the Human Resource organizational goals, objectives, and operating procedures for GP, with oversight from SVP and GP SLT. * Demonstrates change leadership in day to day actions, and play essential role in organizational change initiatives * Develops and directs the organizational design of GP organization to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency while growing the next generation of diverse talent. * Directs the management of resources and Human Resources staff for optimum performance and output as well as assuming responsibility for all budget planning, financial analysis and expense control for GP HR services * Ensures that top talent is hired and retained, adhering to balanced slate practice for all officers. * Provides training opportunities for Human Resource employees and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent
Ideal Candidate
**Education** * A Bachelor’s degree is required * MBA degree or Advanced Degree preferred. **Experience** * 15+ years of progressively more responsible experience in Human Resources, including 5 years of senior management and strategy experience; or 19+ years of equivalent progressively more responsible work experience in Human Resources, including 5 years of senior management and strategy experience * Prior experience * Financial Services and/or Insurance * Supporting a Business Group in a HR Leadership role * In a Strategic HR function * Deep working knowledge of key driver/levers of business. * Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement. * Sound knowledge of organizational effectiveness * Deep working knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Human Resources such as diversity, talent management, employee relations, training and development, performance management, and organizational design. * Deep working knowledge in Human Resource compliance requirements and all aspects of corporate governance. * Sound conflict resolution skills * Demonstrated experience as a “thought leader”. Will be able to demonstrate being sought after for advice, counsel, and judgment. * Extensive knowledge and proven application of talent management, compensation, employee relations, role and organizational design, leadership coaching, employee communication, training and development, and workflow process improvement. * Demonstrated ability to drive human resource strategies and programs in a complex environment at the most senior levels of the company. * Demonstrated success in hiring, retaining, coaching and developing staff via a culture of real-time performance feedback, with ability to build both technical and leadership skills. * Demonstrated experience designing and implementing strategic Human Resource programs * Excellent project management skills. Will be able to demonstrate effective and timely project management across large multi disciplined and cross functional teams. * Critical thinker with an ability to analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or strategy. * Understands the interdependencies of how people and organizations function, and can negotiate through complex political situations effectively. * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of a matrixed organizations. * Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among senior management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding. * Demonstrated excellent relationship management skills with internal clients (i.e. executive management, peers, and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches to driving client-focused solutions which also benefited the company’s top and bottom lines. * Excellent written/oral communication skills. * Demonstrated experience in motivating others in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. * Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations. * Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with collaborative management style. * Ability to understand Lincoln Financial Group’s internal and external customers and address their needs. * Computer skills: * Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook) * Works and be proficient with e-mail systems * Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies, proposals and standard operating procedures. * Ability to write reports and business correspondence, policies, renewals and proposals. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, the general public, and/or any applicable regulatory organization. * Demonstrated success in leading or participating as a key partner in a business transformation effort
