Responsibilities
Public Relations - Develop and manage a comprehensive OCCU media relations plan including goals, budget, and strategies to secure robust, continuous coverage in print, broadcast, and online media to promote positive reputation management in alignment with organizational objectives and target audiences. - Create and deploy content for news releases, fact sheets, byline articles, annual reports, keynote presentations, and event relations in support of annual OCCU Marketing Plan and adapt the voice and tone of messaging and talking points to segmentation personas and brand. Leverage existing relationships with key media contacts – both consumer and trade, traditional and digital – and regularly cultivate new contacts to garner coverage and insights. - Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting credit unions and financial institutions and make appropriate recommendations regarding associative communication strategies to garner earned media placements. Vet all print and digital editorial calendars and align media outreach with marketing campaigns and OCCU community involvement; populate OCCU media relations calendar to track progress against goals. - Monitor, analyze, and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis. Evaluate, manage, and develop submissions for awards and recognition. - Serve as key spokesperson for OCCU; track all messaging, visuals, and coverage and adhere to regulatory requirements. - Manage crisis communications on behalf of the organization; work closely with Enterprise Risk and Administration to provide timely and strategic responses during crisis situations to support Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery protocols. - Work closely with Director of Marketing and Brand Management, Director of Digital Marketing and Content, and Social Media Strategist to create alignment between media relations strategies and tactics, marketing campaigns, and member communications. - Create profiles of subject matter experts within OCCU and position them for commentary. - Create, develop, and edit blog posts associated with internal and external events, community giving, and happenings in conjunction with Social Marketing Strategist. Internal Communications - Develop and manage annual OCCU Internal Marketing Communications Plan; provide vision, project management, and both content and creative oversight for email communications, daily staff information shares, OCCU’s Intranet, large scale employee meetings and events, including sponsorships, volunteer activities, and annual awards program. - Advise and collaborate with Human Resources to ensure recruitment, training, and onboarding processes and communication align with OCCU brand and core values; collaborate with Human Resources and Social Media Strategist regarding OCCU’s presence in trade publications and on social platforms relative to recruitment. - Lead and manage planning, content, and execution of All Staff Meetings, Town Halls, and other OCCU staff events. - Responsible for agendas, talking points, scripts, presentations, and follow-up; direct Marketing Communication Specialist to ensure successful event management. - Work closely with Director of Marketing and Brand Management and Director of Digital Marketing and Content to align messaging (voice and tone) and visuals – including presentations - with brand standards. - Stay up to date on internal communications best practices; make recommendations for continuous improvement. Community Sponsorships, Community Giving and Advocacy - Manage OCCU’s Community Giving strategy, including development of plan with goals, objectives and strategies, budget and partner relations. - Responsible for managing all internal and external communications surrounding sponsorships, donations, events, and volunteer opportunities, including securing PR and earned media impressions, photography, video, testimonials, and news, as well as event and sponsorship outcomes and acknowledgements. - Negotiate agreements with community organizations and partners and manage fulfillment of branded deliverables, scripting, presentations, visuals/imagery in collaboration with team members and Agency of Record. - Build and leverage relationship with community partners, business, and civic leaders and model OCCU’s collaborative community spirit and core values in all interactions. - Stay abreast of industry happenings relative to advocacy; manage OCCU’s advocacy platform, including development of and/or participation in annual advocacy campaigns and legislative visits, such as “CU Day at the Capitol.” - Recommend opportunities for OCCU members, staff, and communities to become involved in advocacy efforts on behalf of credit unions and manage advocacy campaigns. - The Marketing Communications Manager manages the Marketing Communications Specialist and provides a structured and consistent approach to ensure that an individual development plan is in place for this direct report, while also ensuring that performance management is consistent, processes are respected and followed, and coaching and feedback are provided on a regular and dynamic basis. - Perform other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate
- Five to eight years of proven working experience in public relations (agency or client side) and/or corporate communications required. - Crisis communications experience, including working knowledge of best practices in reputation management required. Knowledge and experience with regulatory considerations aligned with various media outlets and communication channels preferred. - Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and national level. - Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in broadcast, print, and social media interviews. - Strong relationships with Oregon media and credit union trade publications preferred. - Solid experience with digital media platforms. - Event planning/management experience. - Financial industry experience preferred. - Bachelor’s in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Journalism, or a related discipline required.
