Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Communications (AVP) will provide strategic leadership and management of programs and departments responsible for creating and maintaining the brand and public image of John Carroll University. The Assistant Vice President will serve as the strategic expert to areas that directly impact the university brand through internal and external advertising, creative production, media relations, digital and social media, communications, market research, the university magazine, annual report, and other brand position pieces. Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement and the University President, the Assistant Vice President will ensure a unified institutional voice and alignment with integrated marketing and branding strategies. The Assistant Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Communications will supervise approximately 12 staff members.
Responsibilities
* Enhance John Carroll University's national standing and reputation-particularly its academic reputation-with influential media outlets. Generate exposure for the university to external audiences. * Oversight of a strategic institutional branding and messaging program that identifies key attributes, messages, and imagery that represents the University authentically and effectively to its constituencies and target markets such as its staff, faculty, current and prospective students, alumni, and presidents of peer institutions. Institute a program that includes sub brands that bring the various educational enterprises into the over-arching brand system. Ensure university-wide compliance on a graphic and identity standards manual. * Develop a market research program that provides information for institutional decision making for an integrated marketing and communications program to support the university's strategic priorities. Provide information for how the integrated marketing and communication program defines its target markets and addresses the interests and concerns of its constituencies, and measures the success of marketing and communication efforts. This will require the development of broad campus support for baseline measurements to evaluate the success of marketing efforts. * Leverage aggregated and individual-constituent data in ways that inform audience segmentation, customization of messages and delivery, and continual improvements to the integrated marketing and communications program. * Promote a collegial and collaborative environment by working closely with schools and departments to build and maintain support to effectively implement and integrate a marketing and communications plan throughout the university. * Provide oversight of the internal communications program that can serve as a solid foundation for all external communications with special attention to the needs and interests of the various constituencies. * Oversee staff members who are directly responsible for implementing aspects of the integrated marketing and communications program. Oversee the management of all resources that are appropriated for integrated marketing and communications. * Serve on the Vice President for University Advancement's senior team and act as advisor directly to the University President and other senior university administrators on issues of strategic importance regarding all internal and external communications. Participate in executive management meetings as needed to advise the university on topical issues and trends in higher education and how they might impact the John Carroll University community and/or how the university could leverage them in integrated marketing and communications efforts to the best advantage.
Ideal Candidate
Qualifications: * Successful candidates will have a bachelor's degree in integrated marketing, public relations, communications, or related area (master's degree preferred); a minimum of ten years of increasing responsibility and related experience with demonstrated success in achieving prescribed goals and objectives. * Proven ability to strategically develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications program to further strengthen John Carroll University is absolutely essential. * The Assistant Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Communications will possess excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills; leadership and management skills and proven experience to effectively supervise staff; ability to build effective teams and create results in a collaborative environment; and a proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with university constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, and the university's board of directors. * Experience building brand-image programs, particularly those that include sub brands is required, as well as experience with applying market research to integrated marketing and communication programs. * Thorough understanding of all forms of marketing and communication media, particularly the Internet and new media is required. * Knowledge of issues and trends in higher education, particularly those that pertain to Jesuit Catholic higher education is highly desired. Prior experience in supervising management-level staff required. * Experience in higher education and working directly with top college officials preferred.
