Summary
The Manager, Transaction Tax leads and has ownership of/responsibility for the tax compliance and accounting processes related to transaction taxes for Exelon Corporation and Subsidiaries. Transaction taxes encompass all taxes other than income, property, and payroll taxes; transaction taxes include sales and use tax, gross receipts taxes, business license taxes and other domestic and foreign indirect taxes. The tax compliance is outsourced to a compliance service provider and the individual in this position is responsible for overseeing the work performed by such compliance service provider. The Manager, Transaction Tax oversees and manages a senior analyst who is dedicated to the transaction tax function. The individual in this position also serves as the primary liaison for transaction taxes between the tax team and various business partners. Finally, the Manager, Transaction Tax manages transaction tax related special projects, as determined by the Director of State and Local Taxes.
Responsibilities
* Continuously identify and implement process changes to improve efficiency and accuracy of transaction tax compliance filings and transaction tax accounting processes. * Manage the preparation of transaction tax returns and supporting work papers by the compliance service provider, and responsible for reviewing and checking the accuracy of material returns. * Manage the tax accounting processes related to transaction taxes and advise the business and tax department on the financial statement impact of transaction taxes. * Serve as the primary liaison for transaction tax matters between the State and Local Tax team and various business partners. In this capacity, timely share information within the State and Local Tax team regarding business changes (e.g., billing system changes, new product offerings, jurisdictional changes, sales volume changes). Also in this capacity, timely share tax research information and recommendations provided by the State and Local Tax team with business partners. Finally, build relationships with business partners. * Manage the collection and conveyance of information needed for transaction tax audits, and assist with state and local transaction tax audits. * Assist with special projects as needed.
Ideal Candidate
**Position Specifications:** * Undergraduate degree in Accounting or other financial discipline * 8-10 years of transaction tax compliance experience including at least 4 years in a managerial position overseeing compliance process and managing multiple stakeholders * Comprehensive knowledge of state transaction tax laws * Strong communication skills, written and verbal **Preferred:** * Transaction tax compliance experience with a multistate U.S. organization involving a large volume of filings for multiple legal entities * Energy/Utility industry experience is desirable, though not at the expense of a broad base of experience * Certified Public Accountant or other financial certification and/or advanced degree (MST) **Position Scope:** * Reports directly to the Senior Manager, State & Local Tax * Tax’s primary office is in Chicago, Illinois with minimal travel among the office/business unit locations in other jurisdictions
