Senior Tax Accountant

Social Finance (SoFi) is a finance company that offers a range of lending and wealth management services. The company primarily caters to early-stage professionals and offers variable and fixed rate parent, personal, and MBA loans, mortgage refinancing, and more. Based in San Francisco, California, the company was founded in April 2011.

• Federal, State & Local Tax Return Preparation and Analysis: Ensure accurate and timely compliance with federal, state and local income/franchise tax laws and regulations. Coordinate the federal, state and local income tax compliance process for tax returns, estimates, extensions, etc. Responsibilities will include both preparation and review of returns and supporting schedules.
• Tax Provision Preparation and Analysis: Assist in the federal, state and local income tax accounting process to ensure accurate tax amounts are reported in the Company’s financial statements and related disclosures.
• Assist in Analysis of Tax Planning Opportunities
• M&A Analysis
• Assist with tax audits and inquiries and other areas, as needed.
• Effectively execute internal controls over financial reporting of state and local taxes.
• Conduct tax research, draw conclusions and prepare technical memorandums to support tax positions
• Monitor legislation and judicial proceedings for relevant tax law changes.
• Work with cross functional teams to further understand business processes and to educate others on tax related items.
• Perform state nexus analysis.
• International, multistate and partnership experience a plus.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of related experience (experience in public accounting or financial institution tax department a plus)
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Masters in Tax & CPA preferred)
