The city of Las Vegas was founded on May 15, 1905, when a land auction, in what is now known as downtown Las Vegas, resulted in the purchase of 110 acres of land. The city incorporated on March 16, 1911, and until 1944, operated under a "commission" form of government with each commissioner having administrative control over certain operating departments of the city.
Summary
The Director of Information Technologies is a strategic partner with the City of Las Vegas’s leadership team to develop a vision and execute a strategy optimizing the use of technology to enable departments to advance best business practices for the benefit of the organization and the citizens of Las Vegas. The Director is responsible for planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the Information Technologies Department; coordinates assigned activities with other city departments, divisions and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the city’s Leadership Team. The Director reports to the Chief of Internal Services. Director reports to the Director include two Business Relationship Managers, Financial Management Business Specialist, Security & Contingency Security Architect, Sr. Management Analyst, Management Analyst II, and Administrative Secretary.
Responsibilities
- It is anticipated that the Director of Information Technologies will be a highly competent, seasoned information technology professional with outstanding leadership and management skills and a sound record of outstanding accomplishments. - The ideal candidate will combine strong business acumen with technical expertise. - The Director is a key contributor to the Executive Management Team and will develop relationships with numerous stakeholders, internal and external. - The Director must have excellent collaborative skills and an inclusive management style. The Director will provide strategic leadership for imbedding technology throughout the enterprise, while seizing opportunities to enhance internal and external data sharing with appropriate security. - Candidates with strong business judgment who understand how business processes can be leveraged by technology will be favorably considered. - The successful Director will be an outstanding communicator, both written and oral, with strong presentation abilities and the adeptness of translating technical language into understandable terms for the lay audience. - The ideal candidate will have established contacts with peers in the information technology field and professional organizations to stay abreast of the rapid changes that occur in the information technology industry and have significant knowledge and experience with security systems in order to ward off ever-increasing cyber threats.
Ideal Candidate
- It is expected the new Director of Information Technologies will have a Bachelor’s degree in management information systems, computer science or a related field and six years of increasingly responsible experience in systems analysis, design and computer programming and operations, including two years of administrative supervisory responsibility.
