Responsibilities
The Director of Marketing is a strategic thinker and hands-on manager responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications activities for Telfair Museums. The Director of Marketing reports to the Director/CEO and works closely with the Director to establish the Telfair Museums brand and fulfill the mission of the institution as “a dynamic cultural center connecting people of all ages and backgrounds.” The Director of Marketing aligns his/her efforts to accomplish the goals in the Museum’s Strategic Plan, particularly the marketing goal to “implement an integrated marketing strategy that is relevant to the expectations of current and future audiences and drives increases in attendance, visitor engagement, earned income, and membership support.” **Essential Functions:** - Provide dynamic leadership and direction for the Marketing Department to build the brand of the Museum and its three sites; and create strong relationships with visitors and stakeholders. - Create and implement a multi-year marketing and public relations strategy to increase the museum’s visibility, attendance, and income. - Develop, prioritize, communicate, and implement marketing and communications strategies to meet or surpass budgetary, attendance, and other defined institutional objectives each year. - Oversee the development and brand integrity of all print and electronic marketing collateral and campaigns, social media, website, e-mail communication, signage and other items. - Oversee the development and implementation of a digital marketing strategy, including website, electronic communications, and social media, that features rich and accurate content, fosters community, invites exchange and opens dialogue with Telfair Museums’ many constituencies. - Use online metrics and audience data analysis to drive decision-making. - Increase penetration into Savannah’s vibrant tourism market by developing comprehensive strategies to increase tourist attendance at its three sites. - Work closely with Development department to create and implement a comprehensive member and donor communications strategy and support the museum’s revenue-generating activities. - Promote the Museum locally, regionally, nationally, and globally to raise the profile of Telfair Museums by creating and fostering excellent relationships with local, regional, and national media. - Oversee the development and implementation of a public relations strategy, including press relations, community outreach, and Director/CEO public appearances. Pitch stories, and serve as museum spokesperson for media. - Oversee the purchase, design and placement of external media and advertising. Negotiate and secure revenue-generating media sponsorships. - Develop institutional relationships with other Savannah arts organizations, tourism partners, and other community contacts to expand Telfair Museums’ visibility and reach. - Work with Director/CEO to develop and maintain relationships with Government and City leaders to advance and preserve Telfair Museums’ position in the community and state of Georgia. - Compile, analyze and evaluate market data from onsite visitors and other key audiences to understand attendance behavior and determine best use of marketing resources. - Develop and maintain a concise set of metrics concerning the impact of marketing initiatives used to drive decision-making by staff and Board. - Provide monthly marketing and communications reports to Director/CEO. - Serve as staff liaison to Marketing and Earned Income Task Force. - Manage the Marketing Division’s budget to ensure its effective and efficient use of resources to support institutional goals of Telfair Museums. - Supervise the work of all Marketing/PR full time employees, interns, and volunteers. - Perform such other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will bring the following skills and abilities to ably perform in this position: Collaborative work style; ability to gain the trust and confidence of the Director, Trustees, staff, and other stakeholders. Superior written and oral communication skills; compelling and persuasive presentation style . Experienced speaker/presenter; experience creating and presenting to large and small groups. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to mentor and effectively guide the work of teams. Ability to plan, develop, monitor and manage significant, detailed, budgets and analyze trends and statistics. Excellent organizational skills, with proven ability to stay on schedule and budget. Ability and inclination to read collect information and remain abreast of new and best practices in marketing outreach strategies, particularly in museum settings. Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience in data gathering, analysis and application of metrics and data. Education, Experience and Certification: - A Bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree or professional training in marketing preferred. - A minimum of seven years progressively responsible experience in marketing and in supervisory or management positions. - Experience in developing and leading a comprehensive marketing program that includes traditional and digital approaches. - Proven success in integrating digital strategies with traditional brand experience and promotion is required. - Financial literacy, with an understanding of numbers and ability to track, analyze, and share financial data in an accurate, timely and comprehensible way.
