Summary
The Director of Accounting is the primary process owner for preparation and review of the consolidated US GAAP financial statements, including management of eliminations and certain intercompany account reconciliations. Responsibilities also include making recommendations to improve accounting processes and systems by the utilization of broad accounting and business knowledge to identify accounting issues and opportunities. Plans, directs, mentors and manages a team of manager(s) and below accountant(s). The Director of Accounting also maintains effective internal controls and ensures accounting activities are US GAAP compliant. The successful candidate must be capable of operating in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
* Manage monthly consolidation of worldwide entities, foreign currency translation and elimination process, including preparation of intercompany transactions and reconciliations. * Prepare the global consolidated financial statements while ensuring that they are in compliance with US GAAP and present applicable portions of the monthly results to finance and accounting management. * Critically review and analyze data to ensure accuracy, completeness and US GAAP compliance. * Prepare, review and approve journal entries. * Review payroll and related journal entries prepared by the Payroll Manager. * Review and approve general ledger account reconciliations. * Manage consolidation rules and data validation. Work closely with IT teams as appropriate. * Prepare monthly cumulative translation adjustment (CTA) analysis. * Partner with Tax/Legal to manage legal entity liquidations, internal asset sales, capital contributions/dividends/distributions. * Manage the filing of Property, Sales and Use Tax returns. * Participate in legal entity re-organizations, divestitures, M&A due diligence and integration planning. * Participate in the management of the monthly accounting close process. * Ensure the appropriate accounting for equity-related transactions, warrants and VAT. * Manages the Accounts Payable and Employee Expense functions and related reporting. * Prepare and review variance analysis for accounts and additional reporting as needed by management and external reporting. * Prepare and review schedules in support of the internal and external audit process along with assisting in the management of the audit processes. * Monitor the team’s performance to ensure direct report(s) meet individual tasks, deadlines and perform to established standards. As needed, takes timely actions to coach, develop and train team in order to be able to fulfill their daily responsibilities to achieve the job requirements and needed competencies. * Effectively balance workloads, assignments and appropriately delegates responsibilities to staff. * Anticipate issues, propose solutions and understand department interdependencies and deadlines. Proactively communicates with the broader finance and accounting teams and cross functional business partners. * Participate in global standardization efforts for policies and procedures and account reconciliations. * Develop, and maintain SOX controls as the business environment changes as a result of process, system, and policy enhancements. Includes risk assessments and review of risk areas. * Coordinate and ensures ongoing compliance with SOX.
Ideal Candidate
* BS in Accounting * CPA Preferred with a minimum of 3 to 5 years in public accounting with a Big 4 firm * Minimum 8-10 years of global public company accounting experience, including working knowledge of ASC830 – Foreign Currency Matters * Deep knowledge of US GAAP with expertise in Revenue Recognition and Equity Accounting * Working knowledge of Oracle 11i or R12 and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) OR similar ERP experience required along with recent NetSuite experience * Month-end close experience and advanced Excel skills required * Ability to conduct accounting research and write accounting policies * Outstanding oral communication, analytical and written skills required * Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and work collaboratively * Attention to detail, organized and thorough with the desire for continuous improvement * Ability to work independently and a strong team player * Ability to meet tight deadlines
