Summary
The Sr. Tax Accountant assists in the preparation and review of various tax returns and reports for federal, state, international, property, sales/use and other tax-related liabilities. The tax accountant will stay current on changing tax laws and track those affecting the company. May be involved with tax implications of mergers and acquisitions. The Sr. Tax Accountant reports to the Director of Tax.
Responsibilities
* Calculate, prepare and file sales/use and other transfer tax returns (as applicable) * Determine the taxability of AppFolio products in each state and respond to directly to customer questions regarding the taxability of AppFolio Products * Manage transfer tax related reserves including updating current accruals and monitoring company activities to determine AppFolio filing requirements within other taxing jurisdictions * Assist with sales/use tax audits and in preparing/filing VDAs * Respond to state tax notices, business license renewals and other state tax communications * Manage state annual report filings and disclosures with various state reporting entities * Work with the Director of Tax on Federal and State Income Tax compliance, planning and audits * Prepare and file non-resident income tax withholdings * Conduct tax research as assigned by the Director of Tax and as otherwise necessary to fulfill the tax compliance and planning responsibilities of the Tax Department * Prepare and file property tax returns for all members of the AppFolio group * Performs other related duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelors of Accounting or related experience with accounting/tax * Ability to manage multiple projects and meet required deadlines * Willingness to learn new and challenging tax/accounting/business concepts while demonstrating a positive attitude and taking complete ownership of assigned processes and responsibilities * Competent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to learn and use specific tax software packages (CCH Intelliconnect, Avatax, etc.) to perform the essential functions listed above * Excellent professional, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to produce quality deliverables within tight timeframes while simultaneously managing multiple tasks and projects * Results driven, high energy professional with a strong work ethic and great leadership skills. * Ability to work well with others in high pressure situations * Ability to work with minimal supervision * Must be detail oriented
