General Accountant / Finance

Answers in Genesis is an apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively. We focus particularly on providing answers to questions surrounding the book of Genesis, as it is the most-attacked book of the Bible.

This General Accountant position is a full-time staff position supporting the Finance Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department. Position responsibilities will focus on activities such as cash management, purchase order processing, general ledger postings, bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, fixed assets, financial reporting & analysis including ministry sales, contribution revenues, and expenses.

• Assist with posting the ministry’s general ledger transactions
• Reconcile bank accounts monthly
• Reconcile accounts as defined by month end closing procedures
• Assist with month-end closing procedures
• Assist the Finance Manager with updating & maintaining the fixed asset sub ledger
• Assist with annual audit
• Prepare financial reports and analysis as needed to support other departments
• Train in Accounting Specialists duties in order to support their tasks during absence due to vacations, illness, or other reasons
• Support Finance Manager and CFO on special projects as needed
• And all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

• Capable of working independently with little supervision
• Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours/week
• Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith.
• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Regular attendance at a local Bible-believing church.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 2 years of Accounting experience
• Experience with any of the following is a plus:
• Non-profit accounting
• Budgeting/forecasting
• Cost accounting
• Asset management
• Taxes
