Summary
The Office of University Communications shares the stories of Wesleyan University—highlighting the achievements of our university and its students, faculty, and alumni, in pictures and in words. Located in historic South College, the office develops and executes university-wide and specific strategic marketing and communications efforts, including multimedia and online content, news and media relations, social media platforms, print publications, and production and design services. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Marketing Director works with key University constituencies to develop and lead new marketing and communications campaigns and refine existing campaigns designed to raise the visibility of the University. The Marketing Director supervises the Sports Information Director and may supervise additional staff.
Responsibilities
* Engage key University stakeholders to develop and deliver marketing and communications strategies and tactical plans that meet Wesleyan’s overall needs, in a manner consistent with institutional strategy and priorities. * Proactively partner with units across campus to help them research, plan, implement and measure their marketing and communications efforts with a focus on Fundraising and Admission. * Provide expertise in marketing techniques, channels and technologies across all phases of strategy, planning, execution and measurement. * Effectively lead projects within the University Communications team that involve multiple team members and skill sets such as editorial, PR, design, production, web, social media, video, email, print, etc. * Drive the production of high quality communications to core audiences such as alumni, donor, current and prospective students and parents. * Deliver marketing campaigns that produce strategic value in a timely and cost effective manner. * Develop measurement plans, to ensure all activities are tied to measurable results and incorporated into decision making to improve effectiveness. * Coordinate broad market analysis and research activities. * Similar duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelors degree and 5 or more years of related marketing experience, including marketing campaign management or an equivalent amount of education training and experience. * Experience partnering with internal constituencies in the development of communications and marketing strategies. * Demonstrated success executing strategies and plans that resulted in increased fundraising, admissions outcomes and/or brand recognition. * Sophisticated speaking, writing, editing and presentation skills. Preferred Qualifications: * MBA Strongly Preferred * A mix of marketing communications experience in higher education as well as in the private sector.
