Responsibilities
- Helps develop and leads the implementation of an internal communications strategy (including tactics, activities and materials) that adds to AIR’s culture and fosters employee engagement while communicating the organization’s policy, program aims and priorities. This will include: - Provides content to AIR’s Intranet to increase its effectiveness and impact. - Researches, writes, and edits internal communications documents and emails. - Reviews and distributes AIR’s strategic plan, which includes the mission, vision, goals and implementation plans. - Ensures internal communications strategy and staff communication is transparent, supportive of AIR’s staff, and aligned with AIR’s culture and values. - Create effective, consistent and timely AIR-wide internal messages. - Engages AIR employees and addresses job satisfaction by using internal communication strategies and channels to increase access to resources for career growth and skill development. Conveys the value of the resources AIR devotes to work/life balance, professional development, and other workplace supports. - Manages internal communications channels including AIR Weekly, memos from the CEO’s office, events, notices of professional development activities, and announcements about diversity and employee resource groups. Develops new channels as needed to keep all employees well-informed and engaged. - Finds creative ways to communicate internally about key organizational events including investments in AIR community building, business strategy, management changes, finance issues, HR initiatives, charitable giving, and other identified events as needed. - Works with AIR’s corporate communications team to ensure internal and external outreach activities are synchronous and mutually reinforcing. - Measures internal communication results to determine when initiatives are successful or need improvement. Develops and implements appropriate metrics –including employee feedback--to monitor the success and impact of internal communications strategies and initiatives so as to continuously improve communications and messages, take the pulse of AIR’s staff, and keep AIR leadership informed.
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s in communications, human resources, or similar liberal arts major required (journalism, corporate affairs, marketing/PR, etc.); advanced degree preferred. - 8-10 years’ experience in internal communications/corporate communications (e.g., supporting corporate functions in HR, Finance, Operations, or similar). Experience with IT, social media, marketing/PR and information management or organizational communication a plus. - Experience with developing and implementing results-driven internal communications strategies that align with business goals and objectives and measuring their effectiveness. Proven ability to manage complex projects, involving multiple stakeholders, from start to finish. - Successful track record managing, motivating, and engaging staff. Demonstrated experience in developing credibility with and supporting senior managers on the effective internal communication of major decisions and emerging strategic issues. - Experience in complex organizations with geographically dispersed diverse staff at all levels. - Ability to work under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. - Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced environment where decisions must be made and work done in real-time while planning for longer-lead assignments. - Experience in managing teams – for instance, an intranet and team of intranet contributors. - Solid understanding of an organization’s diversity agenda and its relationship to internal communications. - Demonstrated interpersonal, networking, negotiation, and influencing skills. Proven teamwork and collaboration skills. Experience coordinating with communications professionals, vendors, and staff. - Proven ability to research, write, edit, copy write, and proofread internal communications (including talking points, intranet stories, PowerPoint presentations, and emails). - Experience with internal communications platforms, software, and graphic design programs, such as SharePoint, Yammer, Adobe, etc. - Strong and demonstrated organizational skills with high level of attention to detail.
