Director of Human Resources

We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to oversee the retail division of Vail Resorts. This individual will be responsible for effectively planning, developing and implementing a fully integrated human resources strategy across the retail division. The role will balance strategic business partnership with an ability to dive deeply into business issues and support. The Director of Human Resources will administer a wide variety of HR programs in support of VRR business objectives and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal employment laws, policies, and regulations. He/she will also have oversight with the corporate functional areas over the strategic direction of employee relations, recruiting strategies, training & leadership development, compensation and benefit programs.
- Serving as a member of the Vail Resorts HR Leadership Team & the Retail Senior Leadership Team.
- Leadership of the HR function for all Retail Division employees across multiple states and brands
- Build HR Leadership, strategy and efficiency across the portfolio through effective collaboration between retail locations co-located with our resorts along with standalone stores. Oversee issue elevation and resource allocation.
- Providing counsel on employee relations strategy, including investigation of issues, state/government programs and compliance with legal requirements, disciplinary actions, as well as development & coaching support.
- Effectively partnering with operational teammates and senior leadership on key issues, regional support, and business strategy.
- Partnering with the corporate Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and Employee Relations functions to effectively deliver HR programs and initiatives.
- Position reports to VP of Human Resource Operations and dotted line to COO of Vail Resorts Retail.
- Bachelor's degree required, Advanced degree desired
- Minimum 12 years of progressive HR experience
- Minimum 8 years supervisory experience in HR department, preferably in a multi-site, multi-state environment
- Retail industry experience preferred
- PHR/SPHR Preferred
- Strong employee relations experience required
- Prior experience in aligning company culture, values and guest service preferred
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, experience in PeopleSoft and SuccessFactors preferred
- Written and Oral English Language skills, Spanish a plus
- Needs strong change management, analytical skills, operational partnership skills, teambuilding, relationship orientation, excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative matrixed environment.
- Willingness to travel approx. 30%
