Senior DevOps Engineer, Enterprise Informatics

• The position: As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Schrödinger, you will design and develop scalable methods of building, deploying, and supporting our enterprise application services and systems across various machine infrastructures (primarily Amazon AWS). These are industry-transforming systems that our users (drug researchers) depend on daily to move their projects forward.

• The position is one that draws on technical skills stemming from development operations, systems engineering, as well as systems administration. You will leverage these existing technical strengths to understand our existing infrastructure while being given the freedom to innovate major improvements to meet changing needs. This role is primarily an engineering one that does not require experience in the physical sciences (chemistry, biology, or physics).

• Architect and implement the infrastructure for building, testing, deploying, tuning, and troubleshooting our engineering team’s production and development systems

• Advise the development team on best practices throughout the design process of their applications, to ensure that they can be delivered to manageable and highly available production environments

• Communicate frequently with stakeholders to prioritize infrastructure enhancements by DevOps team

• Design and manage our monitoring/alerting systems

• Organize and participate in the on-call schedule process for our operations team

• 3+ years of relevant work experience: DevOps/Infrastructure, Test Automation, Systems Administration, and/or Development
• Experience working with modern infrastructure operations and automation tools:
  • server virtualization (e.g. Amazon AWS, Xen, Rackspace, VMWare)
  • cluster configuration (e.g. Chef, Puppet, Salt)
  • continuous integration and testing (e.g. Jenkins, Hudson, BuildBot)
• Proficient knowledge of and passion for the UNIX operating system:
  • process limits, devices
  • networking / http
  • system administration and bash
  • we primarily use Ubuntu/Debian, Centos/Red Hat
• Experience solving security problems:
  • certificate management, network/firewall configuration, encryption
• Experience working with Monitoring and Alerting Tools:
• e.g. Datadog, Nagios, Zenoss
• Experience with a modern scripting language:
• e.g. Python, Ruby
• Experience with the deployment and maintenance of databases:
  • e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB
• Experience with source control
  • e.g. GIT, SVN
• Proficient interpersonal skills (oral/verbal communication), complemented by an ability to collaborate in a team environment
• Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems and a willingness to learn
• Ability to ask smart questions, think outside the box, and be creative
