Summary
The VP of Product for Hardware at Peloton reports to the COO and is a critical member of the Peloton management team driving continuous improvement in our core product line and executing on the development of entirely new products. This role owns the product development lifecycle and must be able to lead a team of product managers, industrial designers, mechanical and electrical engineers (as needed), and interface with OEMs/ODMs to ensure quality, manufacturability, and design integrity. The VP of Product for Hardware will be responsible for successfully crafting and delivering on a cohesive product strategy working with other department heads to ensure a high touch user experience across all product touch points. This role requires a strong product leader with a mix of skills across manufacturing, engineering, and industrial design for both computer and mechanical hardware products. The ability to hire a great team and manage the complete product lifecycle over a growing catalogue of SKUs is central to success in this role. A background in consumer goods with mixed software/hardware components is critical.
Responsibilities
**Own continues product initiatives:** * Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative user feedback on existing products to help shape product improvements * Collect and review direct and tangential industry-specific product information and ensure Peloton remains a clear leader in high-design, engaging fitness hardware * Review and analyze new safety and durability standards to ensure Peloton is always at the forefront of safety and quality * Understand and test the latest wireless connectivity protocols to maximize the quality of Peloton’s streaming content platform * Maintain a regular product-line refresh cycle to continuously introduce product enhancements based on the above and in-line with Peloton’s broader company goals * Work with Peloton's OEM/ODMs to prototype, refine, QC, and launch product on an efficient time schedule **Research, develop, and lauch new products** * Work closely with Software and Content development teams to create complete product experiences (Peloton hardware comes to life for our users with integrated software and engaging content programs. These must be built concurrently.) * Run an R&D process for new hardware products as needed * Extend and mature Peloton’s mechanical and industrial design language across product lines * Seek new computer hardware improvements and optimal chipset partners to maintain Peloton’s industry lead * Work with Peloton's OEM/ODMs to prototype, refine, QC, and launch on an efficient time schedule
Ideal Candidate
* Expertise in consumer product development * Experience leading a team of product mangers, industrial designers, and engineers * Experience working with OEM/ODMs for developing consumer goods with electrical and/or mechanical components * Expertise in electrical or mechanical engineering is a plus * Expertise in industrial design is a plus * Expertise in international consumer product safety and regulatory testing a plus * A minimum of 10-15 years experience as a product designer, strategist, and/or engineer in the consumer hard goods space. * Bachelors degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, industrial design, or related product design degree (or plenty of related experience to compensate). **Personal profile characteristics should include:** * Strong team leader who can move seamlessly from high level thinking to the nitty gritty * Ability to drive consensus among stakeholders * Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills required * Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects and project teams * Analytical and thoughtful but not afraid to make mistakes when going on gut * Personal values consistent with company culture * Energetic, authentic, respectful, humble.
