Summary
The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications will write, edit, and produce content for large-scale, complex, multi-faceted marketing and communications campaigns and deliverables and will manage multiple, large-scale projects from concept to completion, in support of enrollment goals for all traditional undergraduate programs, non-traditional undergraduate programs, and graduate and professional programs falling under the responsibility of the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management. The Associate Director will report to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications for Enrollment Management. This position will be housed on Mercer’s Atlanta campus and will travel frequently, as required, to the Macon campus, Regional Academic Centers, and other locations, to represent the Marketing and Communications team and effectively collaborate with team members and other University departments.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualizing and authoring content across multiple channels to achieve goals and fulfill objectives as outlined in the marketing and communications strategic plan—including print publications; digital, broadcast, out-of-home, and print media placements; social media networks; print and electronic direct communications; and University websites; - Providing supportive leadership for development and implementation of marketing strategies and tactics across the scope of the Office of Enrollment Management’s marketing and communications strategic plan; - Serving as team lead for content development; - Developing and aiding in implementation of a comprehensive content marketing strategy and a comprehensive social media strategy that enhances the University’s image and supports recruitment, enrollment, and retention goals and processes—also serving as team lead for these strategies; - Assisting with website navigational design and maintenance; - Assisting with communication flow planning and implementation; - Overseeing marketing and communications support for prospective student events in Atlanta and at the Regional Academic Centers; and - Other duties as assigned by the AVP for Marketing and Communications. In order to successfully accomplish objectives, the Associate Director must be an effective collaborator: - with team members within the Office of Enrollment Management, - with University administrators, - with departments and schools across the University, and - with external vendors.
Ideal Candidate
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communication, Technical Communication, English, Business, Marketing, or a related field and three years of prior experience OR a master’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or a closely related field and one year of prior experience is required. Prior experience must include: - Experience and involvement in developing strategic marketing and communications plans and implementing those strategies and tactics; - Writing and editing content with a marketing voice for a variety of audiences with a proven record of successful content generation; - Experience managing social media for marketing purposes. - The successful candidate must also have prior experience working with graphic designers, writers, photographers, and others to develop content and artwork. - The incumbent must be a compelling storyteller who has excellent grammar, proofreading, and writing skills, impeccable organizational, project management, and time management skills, an understanding of marketing and advertising, a creative eye for design, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities at the same time, to meet deadlines, and to follow through on tasks to their completion. - Critical thinking and evaluation skills are required to be successful in this position. - Candidate must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable by the University carrier as this position requires some travel. - Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a credit and criminal background check.
