Summary
We are looking for a Staff Quality Engineer to work with our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate combines equal parts of friendly and disciplined skeptic, dogged and independent investigator, careful and insightful analyst, and practical and inventive engineer. The selected engineer will be responsible for the performance of a portfolio of products and projects that relate to product quality and reliability and raise that performance from “good” to “truly exceptional.” The selected engineer will have to travel to supplier and contract manufacturer sites as needed, often independently and including the possibility of foreign travel, and will operate out of our Burbank, CA office when not travelling.
Responsibilities
* The key responsibility of this individual will be achieving and maintaining high end-product quality at Dolby’s manufacturing sites including specifying, developing, implementing, and enforcing actions in support of those efforts. * Be a leading member for Quality on product development teams and apply their experience and DfX tools to maximize quality and reliability of new products at product launch. This will include, but not be limited to, accelerated testing, reliability assessments and allocations, and design and process FMEAs. * Direct and perform independent forensic investigation and analysis of problems reported from the field related to released products to inform management and direct improvement effort. * Working with key product and customer service personnel (both managers and engineers), the quality engineer will be responsible for identifying areas for improvement in the out-of-box quality and warranty costs of Dolby’s hardware products and assist in leading associated improvement efforts. * Take ownership for the development and deployment of internal quality processes and efforts.
Ideal Candidate
* Must have at least a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering, or similar field. * Must have at least 8 years of experience working as a technical professional or manager with at least 3 years leading or managing quality efforts in a manufacturing environment. * Strong knowledge of statistics and probability as applied to manufacturing processes, statistical process control, total quality management, and the ability to present them in technical and business environments. Certifications in these areas from ASQ or comparable professional organizations are highly desirable. * Strong knowledge of quality standards such as ISO 9001. Participation in implementation of such standards is highly desirable. * Excellent investigation skills as demonstrated by a good number of successfully concluded failure analyses. * A working knowledge of either the manufacture of audio signal distribution and reproduction systems including microphones and speakers is highly desirable. * Excellent technical and business communication skills in English, both written and verbal. * Must be willing and able to travel, including to foreign countries.
