Summary
The Corporate Tax Accountant I assembles, maintains, and analyzes domestic and/or international tax information used in the preparation of municipal, state, and federal tax returns and internal and external financial statements. This is a multi-incumbent position; individuals may perform any of the following duties, but not all based upon individual assignments.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and maintains tax records and information used in federal and state return filing including analyzing legal invoices, reserves, charge offs, (other real estate) ORE, fixed asset transactions, etc. for proper tax treatment. - Reviews fixed asset invoices to determine the type of asset and assign appropriate book/tax lives; creates general ledger entries and enters amounts/lives into fixed asset software system (FAS2000). Computes monthly depreciation expense for financial statements/tax purposes; ensures reconciliation of all fixed asset and depreciation accounts. - Prepares federal and state return filings for upper level review utilizing data retrieved from general ledger; reviews and analyzes revenue expense items to determine book/tax differences; creates work papers to document differences and enters into tax return software system to calculate the appropriate tax liability. - Maintains proper records used in analyzing tax planning strategies and estimated payments. - Provides support in the preparation of annual tax accrual information as needed for financial reporting; provides support during monthly tax accrual process for financial statement purposes; reconciles tax accounts. - Researches tax laws, regulations, and rulings pertaining to municipal, state, and federal income taxes; utilizes RIA On Point system via CD Rom. - Provides support for various areas of the Bank in addressing questions related to assigned duties; receives questions from department management regarding fixed assets, charge offs, escheatment; occasional customer support regarding escheatment/ 1099s.
Ideal Candidate
- Basic knowledge and understanding of municipal, state, and federal income tax laws and regulations - Excellent math skills and ability to understand/calculate percentages and fractions - Working knowledge and understanding of prevailing GAAP/RAP - Good organizational skills and the ability to work as a team to meet strict deadlines - Good analytical, coping, and problem solving skills - Good microcomputer application and spreadsheet software skills - Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. * This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a Bachelor’s Degree with 30+ hours of accounting and 1-2 years work related experience or 7-8 years equivalent work related experience.
