Summary
Tilt is looking for a Controller to head up our global accounting operations, accounting policy and technical accounting processes. This exceptional leader will be a key part of our finance organization working alongside our talented leadership team in a dynamic, collaborative startup environment. The Controller will be responsible for driving change management, process improvement, scaling accounting infrastructures and operations and technical accounting and reporting. This role requires you to be an expert in accounting literature and US GAAP while playing an active role as an advisor to a broad array of internal stakeholders on a diverse set of topics.
Responsibilities
* Lead the month end close process, with direct responsibility for the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets and revenue * Review monthly financial statements and trend analyses to ensure that all results are proper * Responsible for various areas of technical accounting, including cash flow statement, stock-based compensation, EPS calculations, shareholders’ equity statement and other financial statement disclosures * Coordinate and prepare monthly/quarterly financial reporting, including financial statements and supporting schedules * Manage the resolution of complex accounting issues by preparing accounting transaction memos detailing significant transactions * Monitor, enforce and, establish policies and procedures necessary for mitigating risk, to enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP * Manage audit with the Company’s external auditors and collaborate on the evolution of our accounting policies * Manage and mentor direct reports, including the development and training of accounting staff * Work closely with the VP of Finance on implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs and systems * Partner with the senior management to build financial discipline throughout the organization and enable strong performance against strategic, financial, and operational goals * Support corporate transactions including equity or debt financing, M&A, and IPO preparations * Build and manage a high performance team, actively participate in building a culture that is customer-focused and team-oriented * Lead annual financial audits and quarterly reviews, build strong auditor relationships, and partner internally to support operational and compliance programs
Ideal Candidate
* A bachelor's degree or higher in accounting/finance with a CPA designation * 10 + years of combined industry and public accounting experience, with industry experience in consumer internet, software/SAAS, fintech, or related technology fields * Demonstrated ability to build business relationships within and across functions * Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, strong experience with Excel and related tools, exposure to FP&A is preferred * Track record of building and developing high performance accounting teams in a fast paced organization * Demonstrated experience at successful collaboration with various stakeholders to leverage systems capability, continuously improve processes and develop efficiencies * Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills; able to understand, apply and explain complex accounting theories, concepts and processes in ways that non-technical stakeholders can understand
