Summary
This position will manage and oversee all accounting activities for the enterprise, ensure that deadlines established by management are met, establish procedures for collecting, analyzing and verifying financial information to ensure reported results are accurate and in in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership in establishing and maintaining the organization’s accounting principles, practices and procedures. * Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions and review financial statements for accuracy. * Manage, and communicate monthly and annual general ledger close process and calendar; ensure a consistent, timely close process and work to identify opportunities for a more efficient process. * Oversee the probate and trust valuation and accounting process. * Periodically review account reconciliations and analyses to ensure they contain adequate information and support. * Lead and direct the work of the accounting staff, which includes probate and trust management and restricted fund management staff. * Work closely with other teams (accounts payable & receivable, payroll etc.) to ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions to the general ledger and reconciling of related accounts. * Assist with the annual financial statement audit by coordinating supporting schedules and other documentation and serving as a key contact for accounting issues. * Serve as a technical accounting resource and assist in researching and concluding on accounting issues. * Provide accounting leadership to the enterprise on a consultative basis with other departments or business units to aid in decision making. * Maintain general ledger chart of accounts. * Evaluate effectiveness of the organization’s accounting practices with industry practices. * Complete ad hoc projects as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance; 7+ years of accounting/finance experience; CPA required; not-for-profit accounting and/or public auditing experience required; advanced degree desirable * Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles * Technical accounting skills. * Advanced analytical, organizational, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office; Familiarity with working with databases preferred. * ERP accounting software experience required; Lawson knowledge desirable. * Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of other staff * Strong time management skills to manage tight deadlines
