Analytics Professional 2Job Summary Under general / limited supervision, conducts analyses, builds analytical models, provides recommendations, or works on special projects related to analytics, business intelligence, and business unit problems to create actionable insight for business partners. Typical tasks include defining the key business problems to be solved, formulating mathematical or analytical approaches to solve those problems, gathering data to solve those problems, developing analyzing/drawing conclusions, and communicating results.
Responsibilities
* Evaluates business problems with a low to moderate degree of complexity using available information. * Drives business value and supports corporate objectives by providing decision support and increasing organizational business intelligence through business analysis and the use of analytic modeling techniques. * Uses statistics, rigorous quantitative or qualitative analysis, and information modeling techniques to shape and make business decisions. * Integrates multiple methods and tools (e.g., regression, correlation and covariance, multivariate analysis) to complete analyses. * Incorporates and learns under limited supervision and guidance the use of statistical, analytical, or business process models in developing solutions to business problems and questions (e.g., predictive / prescriptive models, and less complex simulation models). * Applies knowledge from multiple disciplines (e.g., actuarial, accounting, finance, marketing) to provide comprehensive analyses of business issues. * Pulls in data from a variety of sources (internal and external) to complete analyses. * Takes the output of analytics models and algorithms, combines that with specialized business knowledge and generates insights that can be acted on by the rest of the organization. * Contributes to the communication and coordination of activities to support corporate objectives. * Communicates findings verbally and in written form; incorporates the use of data visualization, where appropriate, including the ability to effectively express technical statistical concepts to non-technical audiences internal and external to the organization. * Documents findings and work steps involved in analyses. * Develops and expands knowledge of analytical methods, tools, and technologies. * Builds an informal network with individuals in and out of the organization to enhance knowledge and effectiveness. * Develops and maintains adequate knowledge and awareness of industry activities, trends and procedures through attendance at seminars, reading trade journals and magazines, and through personal contact with other insurance companies, state regulatory bodies and professional affiliations. * Serves as a subject matter expert on the information and tools available for use in analytics, business intelligence, and analysis efforts. * Develops trusting relationships with business partners to support business unit analytic needs and objectives. * Works with business staff to identify and define the information and knowledge (e.g., agency and customer data) needed to make informed business decisions. * Works with IT staff to design and test reporting systems and databases to meet analytics and business intelligence needs. * Helps to identify the appropriate sources of information and the business rules required to transform source data to meet business intelligence needs. * Identifies changes to existing business intelligence systems to optimize accessibility and usability. * Makes recommendations to improve data quality and availability. * Completes tasks in compliance with data governance standards and procedures. * Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.
Ideal Candidate
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in analytical positions with demonstrated growth in knowledge, independence, and ingenuity. Knowledge of the P&C industry preferred. * Ability to pass required assessment. * Demonstrated strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills. * Proven ability to draw from a range of interests, skills, and experience to evaluate issues from multiple aspects. * Demonstrated interest and ability in expanding knowledge and skills. * Knowledge of financial, statistical, and mathematical concepts used in business analysis (e.g., regression, correlation and covariance, multivariate analysis). * BS or BA degree required orcommensurate experience, preferably in a field of study with statistics or mathematical orientation. * Exposure to discrete event simulation orpredictive analytics and data mining outside of an academic environment. * Proficiency in two or more of the following software packages (or similar products): Excel, Cognos, SPSS, SAS, Arena, ILOG. Knowledge of data visualization software (e.g., ESRI, Tableau) preferred. * Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to distill and communicate technical material to non-technical business users. * Previous insurance background or business data analysis background a plus. * Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards. *

Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
