Summary
Supervise section personnel and activities to ensure timely, accurate and thoroughly-investigated disability decisions and ongoing management of claim liability, benefit payments, taxation of benefits, deductible income pursuit and reserve data; supervise section to provide responsive customer service to claimants, policyowners and group offices.
Responsibilities
Supervise section personnel and activities to provide timely, accurate, objective and legally-sound disability and claim decisions on new and continuing disability claims. Provide for appropriate containment of the company's liabilities and excellent customer service by supervising section personnel and activities to execute medical and vocational investigations and disability management strategies and techniques, and pursuit of deductible income and overpayments, and claims are managed to correct payment duration. Coordinate the assessment and management of policyholder accounts, implement intervention and reporting strategies in response to sales, marketing and client needs and claim trends; promote effective working relationships and coordinating self with Group Sales and Marketing, Special Accounts, Underwriting and other operating units to install, service and retain existing accounts and contribute to the sale of new accounts.
Ideal Candidate
**Demonstrated skills:** Provide effective leadership; technical claim and/or product knowledge; achieving results through others; express ideas clearly and persuasively in oral, written and presentation forms. **Ability to:** Interact, negotiate and respond to division personnel and clients on claim administration, product and service issues; prioritize and manage a changing workload and meet deadlines while planning and organizing the workloads of others; create an atmosphere which motivates others to achieve results. **Advanced knowledge of:** Managed disability and claim management principles and practices, contract interpretation and application, ERISA, state laws and case law pertaining to disability claim administration, company policies and guidelines related to claim management. **Education:** Degree in Science, Business or related field. **Experience:** Demonstrated progressive experience with disability benefit administration, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
