Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Tax Director. The Tax Director will be responsible for all aspects of global tax accounting, reporting, compliance and planning. Additionally, the Tax Director will have significant latitude for independent judgment and initiative.
* Responsible for accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) in the US and International subsidiaries * Ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes * Liaison with operating management on tax issues and accounting staff on tax accounting issues * Ensuring all required returns, reports, and payments are timely filed and appropriately documented * Ensuring accurate and timely filing of US tax returns for foreign entities * Determining proper treatment and documentation of transactions in US tax returns * Ensuring all cross-border transactions and transfer pricing issues are properly documented and supported for tax filing purposes * Overseeing all federal, state, and international audits * Monitoring status of foreign audits and provide support for cross-border issues * Providing advice to global subsidiaries in resolving tax controversies * Developing and approving responses to inquiries from various tax authorities * Developing appropriate tax planning initiatives/strategies and recommendations to ensure the most effective tax position and cash impact * Providing analysis of the tax impact of proposed transactions and developing tax efficient approaches for each transaction * Coordinating and resolving tax issues related to mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and expansion * Analyzing and make recommendations on tax efficient cash repatriation strategies * Providing advice related to expatriate tax issues * Summarizing and presenting tax information to various functions * Keeping abreast of tax law changes in the US and foreign jurisdictions to identify potential planning opportunities or issues * Reviewing proposed and enacted legislation to determine impact and need for additional tax reserves * Managing a performance culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports and broader staff, providing feedback and developing employees * Proactively establishing strong relationships with all key stakeholders, including operations and finance management, as well as external tax advisors * Ensuring that the company maintains up-to-date tax expertise and awareness of global, federal and state laws and their impact * Leading or participating in process improvement activities to redesign, standardize and automate tax accounting and reporting processes * Providing leadership and direction to internal tax team (6-8 employees) and co-sourced resources
Ideal Candidate
**Required Qualifications for the Tax Director:** * Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance * 10+ years of related experience * 5+ years of experience in a public accounting firm * Demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment * Demonstrated Skills in Mentoring and Development * Previous management experience * Experience with on-line tax research products * Process improvement acumen **Desired Qualifications for the Tax Director:** * Master’s Degree in Business Taxation * International tax experience * JD and/or CPA * Experience with corporate tax software * Knowledge of SAP
