Summary

Design mechanical and electro-mechanical parts and assemblies based on requirements provided by scientists and engineers and analysis performed by self. Perform engineering analysis including tolerance stack up, statics, stress/strain, and heat dissipation. Create new drawings (part, assembly, VICD, and SCD) for mechanical and electro-mechanical components/assemblies as required. Perform accurate and deliberate revisions to existing drawings within a set timeframe with minimal supervision. Work independently using written feedback, general standards, and guidelines, without excessive reliance on redlines or specific, per-drawing direction. Consult with Designers, Engineers, Scientists or Managers as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Work directly with Scientists and Engineers to determine component requirements and design details.
  • Perform mechanical engineering analysis in order to properly design and document components and assemblies.
  • Produce robust, unambiguous, and ASME Y14 compliant drawings to define and document the product for procurement and fabrication.
  • Apply general tolerance and GDT principles appropriately to drawings.
  • Incorporate changes based on ASME Y14 standards, discreet customer feedback, general customer feedback, and internal direction.
  • Document configuration management activities (changes and initial releases) within a product lifecycle management tool (specifically Teamcenter by Siemens) as part of the overall workflow process.
  • Self-check drawings as well as check drawings created by other designers/engineers. Solicit feedback and drawing critiques from other internal staff as well as provide similar feedback to other internal staff
  • Independently research information supporting the past, present, and future state of a given drawing.
  • Present and defend designs and drawings at Design Reviews to internal staff and management.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Ideal Candidate
  • Education: Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of four years working as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Experience with Siemens NX CAD tool is required. Experience in Solidworks is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Teamcenter to manage NX files and data (known as NX Managed).
  • Knowledge of the full suite of ASME Y14 drawing standards.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply general tolerance and GDT principles.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles including but not limited to tolerance application, GDT application, thermodynamics, statics, and stress/strain.
  • Experience in designing small, precise components used in electro mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in optics, vacuum enclosures, electronics packaging, plastics molding, and designing for survivability is preferred.
  • Must be eligible for a US Security Clearance
