Summary
Provides engineering support of existing products and assists with the introduction of new products in manufacturing/production. Evaluates the potential and practicality of products in development and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Responsibilities
* Serves as a mechanical engineering expert to support the activities of other departments, as assigned. * Assists the product development staff in the transition from design release to production, through the implementation of tooling and process communication requirements for the introduction of new products to ensure their successful and timely manufacture * Plans and implements tooling and process communication requirements for revisions to existing products to ensure their quality and timely manufacture * Provides manufacturing engineering support, as assigned, for new and existing products * Solves problems related to discrepant parts and tooling inadequacies to minimize production downtime, without endangering product conformance to specifications * Pursues, investigates and recommends new materials and manufacturing methods relevant to products of the business unit * Proposes and implements design, tooling or method changes for cost-savings, efficiency and/or quality improvements in manufacturing, as assigned * Identifies cost reduction opportunities and implements upon approval of the cost reduction * Documents work per company procedures, this includes engineering change notices, first piece inspection report disposition, discrepant material report disposition, as well as product and tool designs and changes * Performs other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
* Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds * May also engage in frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling of parts and part containers * Visual acuity required * May require prolonged periods of standing or sitting * Holds BSME or equivalent Engineering degree * Minimum 3-5 years experience in mechanical product design * Knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including polymers and mechanical design * Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes, including plastic molding, conventional machining, sheet metal fabrication and casting processes * Knowledge of design and drafting practices and experienced with 2Dand 3D CAD software, especially SolidWorks ® * Experience in use of tolerance analysis, design for manufacturing, design for assembly, design of experiments and other analytical skills * Knowledge of standards for mechanical components * Familiarity with relevant requirements of regulatory agencies, including UL and CE. * Computer literacy, with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite * Skill as a communicator, both verbal and written, including presentation skills
