Summary
Uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS), database, and spreadsheet software to analyze and map spatial data to support environmental investigation and remediation projects. Utilize mapping grade Global Positioning System (GPS) to collect data in the field. Work with raster and vector GIS data stored in a geodatabase. Uses the Locus Environmental Information Management (EIM) web-based database software to input, export, and manage data generated for environmental investigation and remediation projects. This is an entry to mid-level position.
Responsibilities
* Designs GIS (ESRI ArcGIS), database, and analytical processes. May include multi-system development (e.g., tailoring hardware, software, and data configurations to meet project needs). * Designs and develops GIS automation processes for internal use. Modifies application code (Python, VBA, HTML) to customize automation processes. * Meet with team members to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS. * Utilizes various spatial analysis methods (interpolation, modeling, etc.) to depict patterns and trends of geographic data. * Create data analysis scripts (Python, VBA) to look for patterns and relationships within and across datasets. Output may be used to make effective and informed business decisions and may integrate into GIS applications. * Integrates hardware, software, and data. Assesses precision and accuracy of GIS data; makes decisions regarding relevance to projects. May integrate non-GIS data with GIS applications, as appropriate. * Performs quality assurance on GIS data and processes. * May evaluate commercial GIS applications, and design and develop GIS applications for internal use and client deliverables. * Produces client deliverables in both hardcopy and digital format. * Use a Trimble mapping grade GPS unit to survey sample locations and other features in the field, post-process the data, and incorporate the GPS field data into the GIS geodatabase. * Searches for and compiles field data based on project needs and specifications. Screens available data for relevance and applicability. * Perform data entry from field forms into environmental database and/or Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. * Perform database queries and generate data tables, reports, and graphs to be included in regulatory deliverables. * Program tablet computers using EIM Mobile and other emerging technologies. * Developing innovative ideas for integrating mobile formats into data collection processes. * Create boring logs and well construction diagrams using environmental database software. * Perform quality assurance of data management procedures and quality control of analytical database to ensure data integrity and usability. * Coordinate with laboratory and enter Chain of Custody records, Sample Delivery Groups, Electronic Data Deliverables to EIM database. * Participate in Parsons Behavior Based Safety program * Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Ideal Candidate
* 4-year degree in a GIS/Geography. * Experience using database software (Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Locus EIM, Equis, or ENFOS) to manage large datasets. * Education and/or professional experience related to Environmental Science, Geology, and/or Geography is preferred. * Three years of professional hands-on experience using ESRI ArcGIS software is preferred. * Experience using the ESRI ArcGIS software (version 10) and Microsoft Office is required. * Experience using a Trimble mapping grade GPS unit (or equivalent) or equivalent certification is preferred. * Experience using AutoCAD, ESRI Spatial Analyst extension, and Trimble Pathfinder office software is preferred. * A familiarity with environmental rules and regulations, specifically New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and United States Environmental Protection (EPA) is preferred. * 24 or 40 hour HAZWOPER training and certification are preferred. * Valid driver’s license is required. * Local candidates are preferred.
