Summary
As a Senior Accountant focused on ride sharing insurance accounting, you'll be part of a team with an overall goal of keeping our finances healthy to ensure Progressive stays a strong company. You’ll be responsible for understanding ride sharing agreements and ensuring compliance with all facets of the agreements, ensuring premium and loss data completeness and accuracy, reviewing and validating related General Ledger balances, ensuring any amounts due Progressive are received timely and are properly applied to the receivable balance, preparing reinsurance settlements and ensuring timely collections or payments of reinsurance balances, and calculating collateral if required. Because we are a publically traded company, you'll also construct financial statement analysis, explaining the impact of various financial transactions and results for leadership review. Responsibilities
* Review accounting issues to ensure we are in compliance with Generally Accepting Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), our Management Reporting processes and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation * Analyze data to identify inaccuracies and drive corrections to processes as needed * Read and understand contracts and act to ensure compliance
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting * Four years of related accounting experience, with a minimum two years in corporate or public accounting * Strong technical accounting knowledge including internal accounting controls and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation standards * Strong communication, presentation, and interviewing skills – experience working with senior leadership preferred * Demonstrate timeliness, accuracy, attention to detail & strong documentation skills * Ability to meet internal and/or external deadlines * Strong analytical and problem solving skills * Ability to identify and communicate accounting & financial reporting issues to management timely and concisely * Strong organizational skills (planning, time management, priority management) * Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) * Intermediate query language skills (SAS, MBI, SQL, People Soft general ledger queries) and working knowledge of IT systems used for accounting and financial reporting * Ability to work in a team environment and assume a team leadership role if needed **Preferred:** * Master's degree in Accounting or MBA * High degree of proficiency with using advanced features of Microsoft Office Excel and Access for the purposes of process automation and data analysis * Experience with VBA and SQL * Knowledge of insurance and reinsurance accounting and reporting, ability to analyze data for inaccuracies and drive corrections to processes as needed * Ability to read and understand contracts and act to ensure compliance * Flexibility, ability to learn new processes quickly, and desire to assume full ownership of assigned processes
