Summary
We are currently seeking an Operations Underwriting Assistant II to join our OneBeacon Insurance team in Salem, VA. This position provides complex technical services and support for OneBeacon’s Specialty underwriters and contributes to team and branch goals as set forth by management.
Responsibilities
* Systems and Business Knowledge: Reviews and handles assigned transactions within a delegated authority. Gathers and analyzes rating data, refers risks exceeding delegated authority with recommendations for action to underwriter. * Support new business initiatives: Acts as a resource to assist in the development of new processes, procedures and/or systems. Analyzes potential new business programs to assist in determining compatibility with company systems and products. * Training/Mentoring: Provides training and mentoring for other Underwriting Assistants when required. * Develops amicable working relationships with underwriter/agent and handles some agent special service requests. * Lends support as needed. * Assists Service Specialist or Operations Manager as needed.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of corporate policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with company personnel and customers, and exhibit technical competence and good judgment. Must be capable to work independently and as a team. Demonstrated proficiency with copier, facsimile, phone, and computer software including current Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and other data entry and spreadsheet applications and programs. **Education and Experience:** High School degree required. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of insurance experience, with 2+ years of commercial lines rating experience preferred. Successful completion of insurance courses as needed.
