Summary
Operates and supports the AS400 computer system and related peripheral equipment, in addition to other operational tools, software and computer devices. Areas of responsibility include computer operations, report distribution and tape library. Analyzes and resolves hardware / software problems. Provides direct operational services and assistance to users on and offsite to ensure the highest level of service and business system availability are attained.
Responsibilities
- Maintains operations by monitoring error and stoppage messages; observing peripheral equipment; entering command to correct errors and stoppages; reloading paper; process queries, zip reports and process via email. - Maintains stock inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipate needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies. - Ensure network and servers are functioning properly. - Connect computer peripherals for users. - Retrieve, separate and sort program output as needed, and send data to specified users. - Analyzes and resolves hardware/software/problems such as operational discrepancies, job aborts, and network issues. Refers problems to appropriate person when operators’ best efforts cannot resolve. - Operates the computer efficiently to ensure production, and delivery of regular and special reports. Includes operation and performance consoles, printers, tape drives, disk drives. - Maintains operations database (jobs, scheduling, inventory, tape library, auto job scheduler) Corrects and documents operational problems and discrepancies, including program changes and procedural changes as directed by supervisor. - Ensures adherence to hospital policies and requirements relating to access to and security of computer operations area. Receives requests from people who want to enter restricted area and allows access as appropriate. This includes responsibility for maintaining access log. - Performs daily, weekly, and emergency backup procedures and ensures their accuracy, Provides system recovery when needed. - Keeps technology skills up to date. This includes training on new equipment and software, learning new or modified procedures and reading technical manuals. - Responsible for monitoring and maintaining air conditioning, alarms and power protection system (UPS) in the computer operation area. - Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. - Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Ideal Candidate
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. - Certificate in Computer Operations on the AS/400 and/or 1-3 years of IBM AS400 experience required. - Systems Network Technical experience a plus
