The Director of Logistics has the responsibility of planning, organizing, budgeting, directing and controlling all transportation and warehousing activities to meet or exceed company goals in sales, member development, safety, quality, environmental, and logistics cost.
Responsibilities
* Coach the operation and its members to deliver continually improving results in the areas of safety, process improvement, productivity, member development, transportation and warehousing financials, and providing HICS to our customers. * Provide the professional business environment and unified direction required to continually improve the logistics operations to support Johnsonville * Work closely with the appropriate business units and functional areas to ensure Johnsonville logistics supports the businesses growth objectives and provides exceptional customer service. * Establishing the strategy for the logistics department that supports the company’s Must Do Can’t Fail initiatives. * Ensuring sufficient transportation and warehousing capacity for all customer deliveries in the U.S., resupply movements of batter/finished goods/by-products, inbound materials, and exports to Canada, Mexico, Asia, and the Caribbean. * Ensuring the Supply Chain department is contributing its share to the PTM Team’s annual 3% reduction in cost of goods sold. * Managing the financial budgeting/reporting and capital spending processes for the Supply Chain department. * Managing relationships with third party logistics service providers; motor carriers, freight brokers, intermodal service providers, railroads, and 3PLs warehouses. * Network design initiatives to ensure Johnsonville has the lowest cost/highest service production/logistics network possible. * Working directly with customer and Sales to improve both parties metrics and achieve company/logistics imperatives. * Safety and regulatory compliance for the Johnsonville private fleet and its drivers. * Instilling a culture of teamwork, personal learning and professional development for all team members. * Getting members involved and implementing programs, ideas or guidelines which insure fairness and improve member morale and work life. * Leading the expansion of the use of lean six sigma tools and ensure member development on all the Supply Chain foundational skills. * Provide leadership in the food logistics industry by actively participating in industry associations and educational events. Foster a network with industry peers from academia, trade associations, other CPG companies and logistics service providers.
Ideal Candidate
* Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in various leadership roles in transportation and warehousing/DC operations with a track record success in the areas of change management, cost reduction, and service improvement.. * Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA preferred. * Direct experience in managing the various modes of; LTL, TL/multi-stop TL, private and dedicated fleets, intermodal, rail and ocean. * Direct experience in managing warehousing/DC operations and 3rd party warehousing service providers. * Experience in successfully performing manufacturing/logistics network optimization & design studies and implementing resulting changes/start-ups. * Proficiency in developing and administering multi-million dollar transportation and warehousing operating and capital budgets. * Experience in performing contract negotiations with 3rd party logistics service providers. * Demonstrated knowledge and experience with continuous improvement disciplines and project management. Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher preferred. * Experience performing benchmark studies and development/implementation of metrics and scorecards. * Experience using best of breed logistics software (WMS, TMS, YMS, LM, etc.) and managing the software implementation projects. * Commitment to personal growth as well as the proven ability to hire and develop those around you to higher levels of responsibility * Strong interpersonal and listening skills * Ability to lead by example and involve others in the decision making process * Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible by adjusting priorities * A track record of innovation * Demonstrated drive to achieve results and take risks
