Summary
Responsible for operating as a technical specialist supporting plant operations staff in assessing operations, providing professional insights and advice that impact a wide range of mechanical systems, devices and components to ensure they function safely, reliably, efficiently and economically. Providing direction in assessing, determining and executing capital expenditures and maintenance enhancement needs with significant focus on improving productivity and minimizing labor and overhead costs, as well as minimizing milk, ingredient and packaging waste while assuring highest levels of safety, quality, sanitation and regulatory compliance. Manage various projects to include time-to-market for specific products and customers, ensuring customer needs are met at initiation.
Responsibilities
* Ensures mechanical expertise is available to production, processing and maintenance departments to maintain production systems, utilities, buildings and grounds in a 24-hour 7-day per week operation. * Collaborates with plant staff to utilize equipment to improve employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness utilizing continuous improvement techniques. * Manages projects in a time-to-market manner, working cooperatively with sales, marketing, production, engineering, quality, third party vendors, accounting, logistics, and human resources in ensuring specified product(s)/customer(s) are brought to market in a timely and accurate manner and per agreed-to milestones. * Assists in performing maintenance engineering to identify and implement solutions to recurring issues with electrical and mechanical systems. * Assists in the designs, specification and commissioning of capital projects which deliver project scope, on-time and on-budget, meeting agreed to stakeholder expectations. * Assists in the troubleshooting and continuous improvements by accessing machine PLCs and HMIs. * Create part drawings/designs using CAD software for outside manufacture in response to existing machine component failure or to improve machine reliability. * Assists in sizing and specifying process filling and packaging equipment, coordinating electrical, mechanical and control systems with equipment. * Tracking business aspects of project (costs, labor, safety and environmental measures). Identifying and implementing measures to ensure continuous improvement of project. * Remains current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation. * Determine strategies to move the company forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results. * Acts as a role model outside and within the company. Ensure own behavior and the behavior of others are consistent with ethical standards and aligns with the values of the company. * Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the company. * Ensures corporate policies and standards are followed in both capital project implementation as well as ensure contractor compliance. * Promotes a safe and environmentally sound workplace that complies with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. * Communicates regularly with own leadership team about job-related issues. Coaches leadership team on best solutions and consults with other groups as required. * Cooperates in a cross-functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the Company. * Ensures compliance with all Company corporate policies, procedures and national suppliers. * Performs other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor and/or Masters or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience; Engineering or POM is required; Business as undergraduate with Engineering at graduate level. * 3+ years’ of combined experience and exposure in the following functional areas: production specific to non-durable goods (required); operational and processing experience (preferred); track record of successful production-based operations (required); project management experience (required); experience with ERP, MPS, MRP, MEP, WMS, MES, TMS systems (required); experience in troubleshooting equipment and processes, operational events, quality events and quality systems for solutions (required); experience in coordinating with cross-functional groups (required); experience in equipment procurement and implementation (required); PLC programming (RSLogix 500/5000, Siemens Step 7) (preferred); SCADA/HMI programming (Rockwell PanelView line, FactoryTalk View SE, RSView32, Ignition, InTouch) (preferred). * Some level of exposure and/or hands-on experience in any of the following are a plus: working in a production plant setting; experience supporting production efforts; experience in process development, optimization and transfer to GMP manufacturing; developing and implementing technical processes and protocols and training; experience in practical application of SPC; experience in project management – project plans, time lines, specification development, risk analysis, and risk management; experience in equipment installation, qualification and validation; experience in verification and validations of manufacturing processes; technical writing; batch record and SOP writing and review; work instruction writing and review; investigations, deviations, and change control; contemporary production techniques to include UHT, filtration, purification, pressure, aseptic, and others techniques as may develop.
