Summary
We currently have an outstanding career opportunity for a Senior Accountant. This role has primary reporting responsibility to the Divisional Controller and is responsible for recording transactions and maintaining strong internal controls in key financial statement areas including unbilled client receivables and related adjuster commission liability accruals, employee bonus accruals including monthly reporting of actual results to bonus targets for participants in the bonus plans, fixed assets and related depreciation, intangibles and related amortization, prepaid expenses, accrued vacation, and accrued 401k match. This role will also assist the Divisional Controller and Senior Financial Analyst with the annual budgeting and monthly forecast update process including development and tracking of departmental cost budgets and creation of value-added reporting to help track trends to budget and forecast in the business. This role is also responsible for helping the accounting team in other areas as needed, and will be a key contributor to providing clients and adjusters high levels of customer service during storm surge periods. Critical success factors for this role include the ability to interact effectively with accounting and other departmental team members to address company and departmental needs, navigate obstacles and problem solve, and maintain a high attention to detail and accuracy.
Responsibilities
* Processing and Recording Transactions * Maintenance/communication of bonus plan scorecards and recording related month end accruals. * Recording of fixed assets, maintenance of fixed asset sub-ledger and recording of depreciation expense. * Recording of intangible amortization and maintenance of intangibles sub-ledger. * Record fixed asset activity and maintain supporting sub-ledger. * Record intangibles amortization and maintain supporting sub-ledger. * Record prepaid expenses and maintain supporting sub-ledger. * Record accrued vacation and maintain supporting sub-ledger. * Manage month end sales tax accrual and ensure that state sales tax filings are completed and paid timely and accurately. * Complete reconciliations of month end accruals for key accounts as directed by the Divisional Controller. * Monthly Financial Closing * Prepare account reconciliations, ensure transactions are recorded in a complete and accurate manner, and meet closing deadlines in responsible areas. * Maintain and assemble support for responsible areas in support of internal or external audits. * Work with General Accounting Manager to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit in responsible areas. * Supporting a strong internal control environment. * Process semi-monthly confidential staff payroll. * Other Responsibilities * Assist Divisional Controller and Senior Financial Analyst with annual budgeting and monthly forecast process. * Provide support to accounting team members in other areas during peak claims activity.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in the accounting field. CPA a plus. * Public accounting experience is plus. * Solid working knowledge of GAAP accounting and internal controls. * Must have a solid understanding of accounting and ability to transact accurately in an ERP environment. * Functions as an effective member of the team, assisting co-workers as needed and learning from colleagues and supervisors; supports the goals of the department, division, and organization; participates in special assignments and activities as required or approved; demonstrates initiative in the interest of the client, the adjuster and the organization. * Skilled in use of internet for business research purposes; sound written and oral business communication skills, including formatting and preparation of memoranda, letters, and reports; basic mathematical skills; diplomacy; fine and gross motor skills, as well as mental requirements, to operate of standard office equipment, including personal computer, multi-line office telephone system and wireless communication and computing devices, photocopiers and scanning devices, audio visual equipment, and other routine equipment. Demonstrates thorough skill set in a variety of office software, including Microsoft Office Suite (including, but not necessarily limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint). * Effective at time management, prioritization, and organizing skills; excellent interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills; demonstrates teamwork, compassion, and respect toward others.
