Summary
This position is responsible for the development of investment opportunities and product offerings related to specific Distributed Energy Resources(DER). These investments and offerings address evolving customer needs while generating earnings across Duke Energy’s Regulated companies. These complex transactions may involve the wholesale market, Qualifying Facilities or Renewables, generation assets, electric service delivery point assets, retail customer offerings or Company Tariffs. This position must work collaboratively to ensure strategic integration with key internal business unit stakeholders including Rates, Legal, Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, Resource Planning and Customer Services. Incumbents are expected to have advanced business development skills and to understand distributed energy resource technology. Incumbents will be developing business models in order to ensure business goals and objectives are accomplished through effective negotiations, communication, and work monitoring.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development of specific investment opportunities, product offerings, tariffs and services related to distributed energy resources across Duke Energy’s regulated territories: * Develop a deep understanding of key distributed energy technologies and the potential business models that Duke might utilize to achieve its investment and product offerings strategy * Interact extensively with key large customers and account managers on project execution * Facilitate discussions to educate, demonstrate value and influence internal and external stakeholders through effective written and oral communications, including presentations * Collaboratively contribute to the development of an evolving DER Strategic Plan * Work effectively with key internal stakeholders to develop the business models and associated financial analysis necessary to earn on distributed assets * Drive the initial market assessments, product structure and comprehensive business plan necessary to develop assigned distributed energy resource products, services and tariffs. * Lead the execution of assigned projects that are components of the DER Investment Portfolio: * Originate, negotiate and execute the contracts necessary to deliver DER projects * Lead internal and external stakeholders to complete asset due diligence process * Identify risk and mitigations * Identify and eliminate hurdles/obstacles to project execution in a collaborative fashion * Ensure all necessary project approvals are obtained and appropriate documentation is developed * Ensure the integration of new distributed resources into the existing generation fleet process, resource planning and other relevant systems as applicable * Develop expertise in assigned DER technologies to influence and achieve Business Development objectives: * Establish and utilize personal credibility and relationships to influence the successful creation and implementation of new business development opportunities * Work proactively and collaboratively with key stakeholders to remove identified barriers * Leverage external engagement with industry peers, forums and associations to advance and collaborate on specific business initiatives and strategies.
Ideal Candidate
* Basic/Required Qualifications * Graduation from a Four-Year college or University with a degree in Engineering, Business or related field and 4 years prior equivalent work related experience OR 9 years equivalent work experience in lieu of degree. * Desired Qualifications * Experience with Renewable Energy Technology, Construction and Renewable Energy Project Execution * Working Knowledge of lean principles * Demonstrated experience with renewable energy resources * MBA or Masters in Engineering, Business, marketing, or related field * Strong understanding of the energy/utility industry and the technology companies that supply the industry * Understanding of regulatory process in each of our jurisdictions * Demonstrated business development experience * Demonstrated project management skills * Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others * Strong written and oral communications skills including presentation skills for large and small groups * Proven self-starter, results-oriented, requiring minimal supervision * Demonstrated ability to work and lead in a matrixed environment * Demonstrated ability to develop results-oriented business relationships
