Summary
The IT Technical Writer assists the CDC Shared Data Services (SDP) program teams with the creation, editing and updates to a variety of technical documents. The ideal candidate is proficient in both technical and creative writing.
Responsibilities
* Creates, edits, and updates a variety of documents including but not limited to: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), user guides, technical guides (API descriptions), status reports, checklists, Shared Services specific documentation, presentations, ad hoc technical reports and workflow documents. * Ensures documents stay consistent across the program. * Responsible for translating technical language from various sources into content that everyday people can quickly grasp. * Ensure content is proofed and edited prior to external presentation, and again before final uploading to live sites or other interactive properties. * May assist in writing marketing and public relations plans and strategy plan, as needed.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications:** * Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, technical writing, library science, computer science or related field is preferred. * Minimum of three years’ experience as a technical writer. * Additional years of experience may be substituted for the degree. * This role requires of a minimum of 3- 5+ years’ experience in a similar role. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Well-developed problem-solving skills, and a fine eye for detail. * Strong computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. * Extensive experience using SharePoint. * High degree of discretion, full awareness of, and sensitivity to all Intellectual Property matters, documents and communications. **Diversity:** * Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; Educates others on the value of diversity; Promotes a harassment-free environment; Builds a diverse workforce. **Ethics:** * Treats people with respect; Keeps commitments; Inspires the trust of others; Works with integrity and ethically; Upholds organizational values. **Physical Demands:** * The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
