Communications Specialist

Bechtel seeks a skilled communications specialist who can develop and implement communications strategies and programs that support business priorities specifically as a partner to Information Systems & Technology. The position involves a wide variety of communication functions, including planning and executing internal communications campaigns. The candidate will possess strong project management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines. The position is based at Bechtel’s corporate operations headquarters in Reston, VA.

* Manage and support a variety of internal communications activities within Bechtel’s global Corporate Affairs and IS&T organizations, including: * IS&T communications: Lead the planning and implementation of internal communications programs including IS&T strategic objectives, plans and priorities, new technologies, and platforms. Advise management on best protocol for message delivery. * Research: Conduct primary and secondary research on a variety of topics. * Writing/editing: Write papers, news releases, talking points, scripts for video and audio, copy for various digital environments, and other materials as required. * Design: Execute print or web-based design projects that convey IS&T messaging. * Functional liaison: Work with corporate affairs communications teams to ensure alignment, message consistency, and usage of various corporate communications tools * Special projects: Carry out as assigned. **Essential Duties:** * Use strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills for print, web, and digital communications. * Develop and execute communications strategies and plans that support business goals * Monitor all communications from IS&T function to enterprise for understandability and alignment with simultaneous initiatives from other functions * Maintain and update IS&T internal website to ensure relevancy and accessibility of information * Conduct primary and secondary research, compile information, and create and execute communications plans * Carry out special projects and take on other responsibilities as determined by business needs and candidate’s skills, strengths, and career-development interests * Ability to manage bulk email system including: writing, editing, posting, and measuring results * Prepare professional internal and external presentations that maintain alignment with Bechtel Visual Identity

* Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field * At least four (4) or more years of experience working in corporate communications. * Familiar with IS&T communications, policies, and practices, as well as general business terminology and processes * Exceptional writing and editing skills, including proficiency in the use of the AP style guide * Strong strategic planning and execution skills * Excellent communications, research, and organization skills * Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to work well with diverse, global team members * Accurate, detail-oriented self-starter and quick learner, with ability to take direction from multiple sources and prioritize effectively; must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish and meet deadlines * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint * Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop for light editing as needed * Experience with managing SharePoint (2012+) platform * Applications should include at least three current writing samples * Must have the right to work in the U.S.
