The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is the public library system in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its main branch is located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, and it has 19 branch locations throughout the city.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a comprehensive integrated marketing and communications plan and all related tactics; align messaging and content strategy across work units (programs, services, development, administration) and across channels (in-person, paid advertising, social media, public relations). - Create comprehensive multi-media campaigns from concept to execution including paid advertising for television, print, radio, websites and social media as well as related on-site, social and public relations strategies. - Develop a media-buying strategy and work with external media buyers to secure excellent value for the Library. - Use research to determine customer needs, develop plans and evaluate success. - Manage Library branding, image building and market positioning; assure all marketing efforts including copy, design and channel selection adhere to and further develop the library’s brand identity. - Develop and manage an overall marketing budget with expenditures in excess of $500,000 and related goals and objectives. - Assure integrated marketing and communications strategy is understood and fostered throughout the organization. - Work to strengthen and grow new partnerships with media and marketing-related organizations and businesses within the community that will benefit CLP and increase awareness of the Library’s initiatives. Strategic Direction & Tactical Implementation - Function as a Change Agent for CLP. This entails setting standards of excellence for the organization, risk-taking, developing new ways of approaching issues and thinking through problems. - Provide strategic direction and decision-making as part of a senior leadership team. - Develop and lead implementation and execution of initiatives and tasks in support of the organization’s strategy. - Serve as a liaison to the Library Board of Trustees for aspects of community engagement, operational transparency and Board communications. Leadership & Team Building - Provide leadership development, coaching and supervision to staff. - Establish policies, procedures and processes for daily activities in order to streamline operations and generate efficient use of human and capital resources.
Ideal Candidate
Requirements & Qualifications: - Ability to develop and implement marketing strategies, both proactively and during crises or times of immediate concern. - Excellent interpersonal, personal diplomacy, and written communications skills, including writing articles, ad copy and other forms. - Ability to act as a representative of the Library to the public. - Knowledge of public relations practices and techniques, media relations and crisis communications. - Ability to recognize and set priorities, embrace and drive change initiatives, and to use collaborative and inclusive leadership skills. - Ability to immediately provide leadership and positively impact the organization while learning the community and developing relationships. - Understanding of fundraising principles and practices. - Knowledge of graphics and printing processes; audiovisual production and social media. - Ability to schedule, supervise, assign, and evaluate the work of others - Ability to train and develop employees; ability to lead subordinates in innovation, creativity and leadership; especially the management and coordination of high level staff and their activities. - Knowledge of computer equipment and relevant software and hardware. - Knowledge of the place of the Library in relation to government, educational institutions and the larger community. - Bachelor’s Degree in related field with ten or more years of related experience, including progressive management of a similar function or enterprise with similar staff and responsibility; public library experience a plus. A documented combination of education and experience relative to the position requirements may be considered. - Personal attributes should include a sense of humor, a positive and enthusiastic commitment to identifying and serving the needs of the public, a passion for learning and a love of reading. - All related and required clearances, including those for interacting and engaging with children. - Must have valid driver’s license with acceptable clean driving record, and/or, ability to travel independently on own schedule; able to work full time regularly plus extended hours as needed.
Compensation and Working Conditions
Annual Pay $90,000 - $110,000
