Building and Land Technology (BLT) is a privately held, vertically integrated, mixed use real estate development, property management and private equity firm (www.bltoffice.com). BLT was founded in 1982 and has developed, owned and managed over five million square feet of commercial space and over 4,500 residential units.
Summary
This position will interface directly with our Senior Controller, as well as with the senior management team of our funds. Our funds are focused on both equity and debt investments in markets across the country. We are seeking a candidate with strong business, finance and accounting acumen who is interested in working in a fast-paced, high growth, entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in all phases of financial management of commercial office assets, including financial reporting, analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and cash management. Candidates must be a CPA with at least three years of fund accounting experience, including preparation of reports for management, investors and lenders. Proficiency with Yardi and/or Timberline accounting software packages and EXCEL is preferred, as information management will be a key focus. Responsibilities
* Review property-level financial statements prepared by Staff Accountants, and prepare/analyze consolidated financial statements for a multi-building commercial real estate portfolio * In addition, the Assistant Controller will prepare the financial statements, annual budgets, and CAM and tax reconciliations for some of the buildings within the portfolio that is being consolidated. Oversee the preparation of the annual budgets and CAM reconciliations for the assigned portfolio. * Prepare annual financial statements and footnotes, as well as, participate in the annual audits. * Prepare annual budgets and CAM and tax reconciliations * Analyze mortgage, partnership, and cash management agreements, as well as, commercial leases to determine proper accounting. * Record opening and closing journal entries for the acquisition or disposition of real estate assets. * Train new and existing employees.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelors Degree in Accounting * At least five years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years experience involving all aspects of accounting for commercial real estate assets * Prior Public Accounting experience preferred * CPA * Excellent organizational and time management skills * Monitor performance compared to budgets * Prepare monthly comparisons of actual costs and approved budgets, and preparing variance explanations * Prepare monthly cash projection reports * Proficiency with Excel, Timberline or other real estate accounting software packages is required * Hard-working, resourceful individual who can flourish in a multi-tasking entrepreneurial environment, meet time pressures of a fast-paced business, and work independently.
