Summary
Armstrong Floor Products (AFP), a division of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a 3rd Shift (10:15 pm to 6:30 am) Manufacturing Supervisor who can effectively motivate and manage a team of about 15 people responsible for producing resilient tile flooring products. The Manufacturing Supervisor will achieve excellent results through coaching and team development, effective schedule optimization and identification and implementation of new and improved processes. The Manufacturing Supervisor will also work closely with a multi-functional team in driving process improvement and cost reduction initiatives using innovative tools such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and equipment optimization.
Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Supervisor supports our Kankakee, IL plant, a 350,000 sq. ft. facility operating three shifts and employing approximately 285 employees. The position reports to the Business Unit Manager (who reports to the Plant Manager) and is responsible for leading and managing daily production on one of our manufacturing lines. Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Supervisor also include: - Leading, managing, hiring, and training crew of approximately 15 production workers - Ensuring production goals are met or exceeded, including yield, throughput, and quality - Promoting and ensuring a safe work environment and environmental compliance - Preparing daily production schedules and ensuring schedule adherence - Applying lean manufacturing best practices and driving continuous improvement with people and processes - Effectively managing operations while meeting budgetary goals - Partnering effectively with maintenance and engineering to optimize equipment performance and reliability and assisting with Lean projects
Ideal Candidate
**Required Qualifications for the Manufacturing Supervisor:** - Bachelor's or Associate's degree (or equivalent) in engineering, business or related field or commensurate experience - 3+ years of effective and/or progressive manufacturing management experience - Strong management and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse group of employees - Excellent working knowledge of safety and environmental practices and regulations, including OSHA compliance - Knowledge of Six Sigma, lean principles and other process improvement processes - Strong communication skills **Desired Qualifications for the Manufacturing Supervisor:** - Experience with manufacturing maintenance and engineering - Solid mechanical knowledge, including machine operation, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
