With Father’s Day just around the corner, let’s talk about the dads out there and their paternity leave. While in general paternity leave is increasing in many companies, there are a few companies that stand out as the most generous and advanced with their policies. The researchers over at Fatherly.com looked extensively into companies with leading paternity policies. These are the 10 companies that go above and beyond in the name of new fathers.

1. Netflix

Paid Paternity Leave: 52 Weeks (For Hourly Workers: 16 Weeks)

For anyone who has been keeping up with the topic of paternity leave, Netflix in the number 1 slot shouldn’t be a surprise. They have rocked the market for the last 2 years with their intense paternity leave policy. Netflix is a media company known for streaming TV shows and movies online. They are famous for their paternity leave because they are extremely flexible for parents' first year after having a new child. Employees can feel free to work when they feel capable or just take the entire year off to acclimate to their new responsibilities.

Note: Netflix also has an unlimited vacation policy all based on employees completing their work when they need to. This can be extra appealing to new parents who need more time to get used to this new stage in their lives.

Etsy is a company that has stepped up their paternity leave policy this year. Known for connecting crafters and small business owners to consumers, Etsy is a young and employee conscious company. They may not have Netflix’s 1 year policy, but their 26 week policy is well above the norm for paternity leave. The first 8 weeks of the leave must be taken continuously in the first 6 months after the employee becomes a parent, but the rest of the time make be taken as the employee needs over the next 2 years.

Also a company newly devoted to their paternity leave policies, American Express has improved their parental leave time off drastically. American Express is a financial company known for providing credit accounts to customers. Their improved parental leave policies also include financial assistance for those involved in adoption, surrogates, and fertility treatments.

Paid Paternity Leave: 24 Weeks

Spotify is a company known for it’s music streaming capabilities and its progressive paternity policies. Spotify improved its parental leave program last year and they remain at the top. Spotify allows workers up to 3 years to use this time off, which can apply to new hires who had a child in the last three years as well. They also offer a program to help new parents reintegrate into the office. Spotify is a company that cares about their new parents and does their best to help them.

Facebook is another company that has had their top notch parental leave policy for at least 2 years. This popular social media website takes care of their employees with this parental leave plan along with some extra PTO specifically for parental duties. They also allow employees 25 backup child care days and 25 adult care days when a caregiver isn’t available.

They take care of their employees with this 12 week policy and plenty of resources to prepare expectant parents as best they can. This paternal leave time can be applied by the employee at any point during the child’s first year and the company offers to help with traveling child care professionals when business travel is required.

Deloitte is a professional services company that has recently kicked up their parental leave efforts. Their 16 week program is available to all employees starting day 1 and their financial support for new parents extends in many forms of child care.
