Responsibilities
The Associate Vice Chancellor, Communications and Public Outreach, will be the chief strategist for developing and implementing executive, fundraising and marketing communications and civic, media relations and issues management programs that serve UCLA research, teaching and public service missions. These efforts provide critical support to campus advocacy, revenue generation and recruitment needs and priorities.
Ideal Candidate
Qualifications - Senior executive experience managing complex, multi-faceted organizations. Strong managerial skills to comprehensively supervise multi-function managerial, professional and support staff. 2. A minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience in broad-based communications and public affairs programs. 3. Strong media relations, marketing, advertising, executive and internal communications, issues management and crisis communications and public affairs skills. 4. Demonstrated experience administering a complex operation with multiple objectives and points of view within limited resources. 5. Superior strategic planning and resource management skills to achieve strong outcomes within constraints and according to specified parameters. 6. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, including public speaking and articulating ideas clearly and distinctly. 7. Understanding of a comprehensive research university; what makes it unique and different; how to effectively develop messages and media that showcase its strengths; how to interact in an environment comprising students, staff, faculty, administrators, donors, alumni, and other friends of the University. 8. Demonstrated experience establishing, overseeing and evaluating collaborations and developing support among internal campus-wide constituencies. 9. Negotiation skills to resolve disagreements, create desirable outcomes, and diffuse challenging situations. 10. Experience making prudent and strategic decisions and taking appropriate action in situations where there may not be clearly established criteria or standards. 11. Experience with and undertaking of issues involved in a team-oriented environment made up of diverse individuals with variety of interests, strengths, and professional preparation. Skill in organizing information and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort. 12. Strong skill in analyzing information, situations, practices, and procedures to define problems, to identify relevant concerns and to formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives. 13. Superior writing skills to complete concise, effective and grammatically correct reports, policy statements, procedures, and correspondence. Proficient user knowledge of computers. 14. Demonstrated experience performing with frequent interruptions/distractions and ability to perform effective under conditions of fluctuating workloads. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure timely completion of tasks which accurately reflect relative importance of duties.
