Summary
At Optum we are looking for a Learning and Development professional who strives to ensure learning solutions are developed with the needs of the business and team performance in mind. The Instructional Designer within Optum Data Management is responsible for partnering with the business to design, develop, and deliver appropriate learning solutions. You will apply innovative and creative strategies to help take the business to the next level, including but not limited to micro learning, technical documentation and procedures, audio, and simulations using various technology tools. This role includes instructional design, technical writing, and facilitation responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop effective, engaging, and innovative programs * Partner with appropriate stakeholders and SMEs to design and develop applicable learning and performance solutions and technical documentation * Execute the Instructional Design process from analysis to evaluation in a rapid deployment model * Apply principles of adult learning and training best practices to create effective and innovative learning and performance solutions * Identify/incorporate appropriate learning activities/exercises needed to enable learners to achieve learning and performance objectives * Identify measurement approaches and mechanisms to evaluate success of solutions * Demonstrate and apply knowledge of appropriate tools and resources used to develop learning content, e.g., Articulate, Captivate, MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite, SnagIt * Apply a learner-centric approach to promote engagement and active participation by all learners, e.g., technology usage, questioning techniques, story generation * Maintain and apply knowledge of facilitation best practices * Gather learner feedback during the facilitation process to support effective knowledge transfer and make appropriate adjustments, e.g., periodic knowledge checks, assessments, polls * Provide post-training support to learners, as needed, e.g., outstanding questions/issues, parking lot items, unmet expectations, additional copies of learning materials, on-the job support
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor's degree or higher in applicable field of instructional design and technology or adult education preferred; equivalent high school diploma/GED with applicable work experience will be considered * 2+ years of experience in instructional design * 2+ years of experience designing and developing engaging, effective learning programs, using current and successful strategies while applying a systematic approach to instructional design and development * 2+ years of experience in conducting learning analysis * Proven ability to produce quality results using rapid development models and tools such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline or equivalent online learning development tools * Knowledge of principles of adult learning * Experience incorporating multiple media elements into learning programs including audio, video, animation, and simulation * Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and fact-based decision making abilities * Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite * Facilitation skills both in a virtual (WebEx or related product) and in person environment * Ability to succeed in a rapidly changing environment * Willingness and ability to travel up to 10%
