Summary
The Senior Engineering Manager is a key leadership role in the Global Quality and Current Products Engineering group. In this visible position, you will directly affect the organization's top and bottom lines through functional leadership of a team of mechanical and electrical engineers. Position has direct input into the development and definition of global functional strategies and is the primary for deployment of these strategies into action for the Tennant Commercial Products business. Successful candidates will have strong electro/ mechanical technical competency with a people centric approach to leading a team and working cross-functionally. Strong business savvy and a focus on providing a world-class customer experience are essential.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop staff of Current Product Engineers to support Tennant Commercial Products business. Maintain full accountability for technical work delegated to others. Direct and coach team of engineers to execute numerous projects at one time and operate with substantial latitude for design and validation of technical solutions. - Partner with Product Management, Sourcing, Manufacturing and New Product Launch teams to influence and support Commercial Products business development and growth. - Through your team, deliver key projects that support: - On-going production at Tennant’s highest volume manufacturing plant - Continuous quality improvements that maintain Tennant as the premium industry brand - Cost reduction programs to decrease material expenses and increase productivity - Custom Solutions for unique designs that support specific customer needs - Engage Tennant Sales and Service and end customers to learn, support and improve Tennant products for real world applications and usage - Participate in the Tennant Strategy Deployment process influencing organizational priorities and development direction - Support Lean Transformation plans within Global Operations and Holland MI manufacturing plant - Drive data driven decision making best practices with Six Sigma and quality tools

Must possess ability to convey complex technical issues to non-technical audiences including sales and end use customers - Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with all functions and stakeholders. Ability to lead consensus-building processes and strategically analyze trade-offs and compromises to maximize business impact. - People focused, servant leadership mind-set, enabling, motivating and helping team members succeed - Project and process execution focus, driving for business impact through execution excellence and customer focus - Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple projects, and deliver against company business goals and timelines - Ability to demonstrate advanced skill levels in planning, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, independence and work organization - Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty around high value ideas. Accomplished at reducing uncertainty through exceptional engineering and project management skills - Ability to anticipate trends and think in a predictive and proactive manner - Technical competency in Six Sigma skills: DMAIC, Lean, process management, change management and advanced statistical techniques - Demonstrated knowledge and ability statistical tools and methods to problem solving in a quality or process improvement areas - Proficiency in Windows, Minitab (or other statistical software), Excel, Word, PowerPoint and simulation software **Required Experience** - Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited institution - Minimum 10-years’ experience in functional engineering management roles, product design experience preferred - Minimum 7+ years’ experience working in Lean manufacturing environment - Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification required, Reliability Engineering experience preferred - MBA or equivalent preferred - Ability to travel 15-20 % of the time
