Summary
The Business Development Manager is a commercially aware technologist, with an aptitude for highly technical system sales (as opposed to “product sales”). This individual must possess and be able to demonstrate a passion to win contracts and be a critical thinker - repeatedly challenges assumptions to obtain the best design/lowest cost approach to any project. There is also a bit of innovation associated with this role - being able to think through and select from numerous treatment options, including through the use of economic analysis techniques, in order to propose cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities
* Identify profitable growth opportunities in the electric powered passenger bus infrastructure and service field. * Identify and develop close relationships to customers and other significant stakeholders in the region related to the electric bus technology field. * Monitor the state, regional and local political landscape for developments of interest to the business unit. * Cooperate with other Siemens Industry representatives active in the region in an effort to best position Siemens toward the customers in the region. * Take the lead in quantifying potential projects and customers and interpretation of specifications and customer needs. * Act as the local customer contact in preparing and submitting technical and commercial proposals, working with the applications group to develop successful proposals * Participate in discussions, conferences, workshops and presentations as required and with the assistance of in-house technology experts, as needed. * Promote Siemens technology as it relates to electric power bus systems, and special emphasis on “green” technologies for power distribution and efficiency. * Provide regular project development updates to the business unit head. **Technical Sales** * Contribution of technical know-how to the Siemens internal bid-process in cooperation with Siemens bid-team * Support for the fulfillment of the “Buy America”-requirements * Support for local certification of High Power Charging infrastructure * Evaluation of and response to customer questions and requirements * Local Project Execution & Installation - Depending on project scope and size, contribution to project execution may vary from support function up to responsible project management role
Ideal Candidate
**Required Knowledge/Skills/Education:** * Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and 10 years related experience in transportation. Electrical Engineering degree preferred. Technical experience in rail technology/planning or similar preferred. * Excellent organizational skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English * Advanced user of presentation tools (e.g. MS PowerPoint) * Must be willing to travel (40%). * 8 - 10 years of successful business development experience in transit related field. Must have experience in the rail, bus or infrastructure systems and service industry. The ideal candidate will have an in depth knowledge and experience of navigating local and state government agencies to develop rail or bus transit systems. **Characteristics:** * Self-starter: able to work productively without continuous supervision (i.e. on an ‘act and advise’ basis) * Fully engaged Team Player * Excellent communication, presentation and written skills. * Thrives in a fast-moving, rapidly changing, work environment.
