Pocket Gems develops free-to-play mobile games that are ridiculously fun. Pocket Gems was founded in 2009 by Daniel Terry and Harlan Crystal. Their first products pioneered the free to play mobile games industry and have delighted and entertained millions of players.
Summary
Analytics plays a crucial role in our decision making process, acting as a cornerstone of both our day to day operations and our long-term strategy. As a data scientist, you will combine your strategic and analytical skill sets to develop, test, and analyze hypotheses that will have a far-reaching impact on the success of the company. You will communicate these insights to key executive stakeholders, product managers, and other decision makers to help Pocket Gems make the best decisions we can make with the data at our disposal. We are looking for someone who can apply analytical and academic rigor to some of the biggest real world business problems that our company faces. You will spend 80% of your time focusing on marketing analytics. This includes improving our long term user value model, monitoring marketing performance, and improving how we determine the quality of our advertisers. You will spend 20% of your time working with our casual studio to better understand player behavior and working to improve our products. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on several projects that impact everything from human resources to finance to games to public relations.
Responsibilities
* Own and improve our marketing models, including results reporting * Offer advice and counsel to product managers and content designers in the casual studio when they conduct their own analysis * Track results for our casual portfolio and create models and frameworks to better understand and predict user behavior * Perform ad hoc analyses when needed * Assist in the development of analytics tools and systems to help build out the analytics platform * Collaborate with and aid fellow members of the analytics team
Ideal Candidate
* Strong understanding of statistics and/or econometrics * Ideal candidate has an advanced degree in economics, statistics, or mathematics. We are willing to consider other quantitative backgrounds (physics, engineering, etc.) if the candidate has experience with data science * Experience and skill in statistical programing (R, Python, SAS, STATA). Experience in R or Python preferred * Strong interest in video games, board games, tv, movies, comics, or other similar entertainment * Experience in SQL preferred * Experience presenting and explaining technical results to a variety of audiences * Willingness and excitement to explain your work to key stakeholders in order to help them improve our products
