Summary
The Director and Editor of Content will oversee all content initiatives, for Paula’s Choice and Beautypedia, across multiple platforms and media in order to drive acquisition and retention of customers through customer engagement and influencing customer behavior. The Director will refine and advance our content vision and mission and help plan, produce, and analyze the content we create. This role will work collaboratively with departments throughout the Company to translate and support our strategies into compelling and effective content plans/programs. This person will help build our editorial calendar and written guidelines, as well as determine sources for content both internally and externally. This Director must be expert in all facets of content and channel optimization, brand/voice consistency, as well as measurement and analysis of content performance. This position is based on site in our Seattle, WA headquarters.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the Content and Research Team and ensure staffing and resources are adequate to meet the goals of the Company. - Supervise writers, editors, content strategists; be an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging, writing, and style. Serve as final editor of all content produced. - Provide ideas and insights for pieces both from an SEO and trend perspectives in skincare and beauty at large. - Work with Marketing, Brand Management, Creative, Web Production, Social Media, Education and Sales, and PR teams to ensure that all content needs are understood and reflected in the Content strategies and plans. - Work closely with Company's Director of Brand and Creative team on all creative and branding initiatives to ensure a consistent message across channels. - Develop a content strategy that supports and extends marketing and sales initiatives, both short- and long-term, determining which methods work for the brand and why. Continuous evolvement of strategy is a must. - Develop and maintain our editorial/content calendar and workflow (for all channels such as social, web, youtube, etc.) for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and retiring content. - Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, point of purchase, mobile, video, print and in-person. - Determine sources for content creation, both internally and externally. - Ensure consistent global experience and implement appropriate localization/translation strategies as necessary with international team - Review all articles and photographs for accuracy as well as potential libel or slander, and provides suggestions, if needed, about any changes to make before the publication goes to press or is released digitally. - Serve as an exemplary writer, consistent with our company’s tone and mission. - Stay up-to-date with the latest beauty and skincare industry trends and customer challenges in order to build a more effective editorial calendar. - Champion new ways of doing things, such as using new technology, implementing ways to increase readership and how to utilize new media - Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and success of content, measuring actual results against desired outcomes. Develop metrics and measures to enable this. **Success Criteria** - Positive brand recognition and consistency across chosen published channels. - An increase in defined customer engagement metrics (measured by users taking the desired action of clicking, registering/signing up for email, purchasing - Website and social media traffic growth. Social media positive sentiment metrics. - Positive customer feedback and survey data (CS feedback, Foresee, feedbackify, etc.) - Increases in key search engine keyword rankings.
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations or related communications field. Business degree a plus. - 10 years of experience as a respected leader in multichannel content creation (publishing, journalism, etc.) - HR-related experience including hiring, managing, performance reviews, compensation packages, etc. required - Experience managing an editorial calendar for a media publication, website or marketing team. - Proficient in automated Content Management System or other content creation technology. - Excellent attention to detail both for line editing copy and consistency in style and tone across our content. - Experienced project manager approach to content including: project requirement definition, scoping, planning, team resource allocation and management, and delivery to time, scope, quality and budget
