Summary
We are currently seeking a talented, Large Loss Claims Consultant­for our P&C Liability group. This position can sit in our San Antonio, TX, Farmington, CT or Denver, CO office. The Claims Consultant is responsible for handling and resolving complex, highly specialized assigned claims.­ ­Within company guidelines, the Claims Consultant makes appropriate recommendations to management on coverage and settlement.
Responsibilities
* Makes timely and appropriate contacts and completes appropriate level of investigation to make determination of coverage, liability and damages. * Determines coverage, drafts coverage correspondence, responds to coverage questions raised by insureds and others. * Determines exposure, establishes adequate reserves and makes timely adjustments as required. * Selects, assigns and directs activities of internal and external resources as required; including attorneys and experts. Identifies questionable claims and consults with SIU for further direction as appropriate. * Determines settlement value of the loss and negotiates proper settlement of claims within authority. Provides recommendations for settlement and disposition of claims exceeding authority level. * 6) Documents clearly and concisely all relevant activity on assigned files and makes recommendations for additional activity as appropriate. * Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external). * May coach or train less experienced claim representatives.
Ideal Candidate
Strong claims technical knowledge, and legal climate background is essential. Possesses strong knowledge of highly specialized P&C claim types. Must have strong analytical and negotiation skills and the ability to interact with brokers, insureds, and internal stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and provide follow-through on projects. Requires the ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a member of a team. Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including current Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Outlook.­ Some travel may be required. **Education and Experience:** Bachelor’s degree required. JD preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 years of experience and should have significant legal or specialized claim-handling experience.
