Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Coordinator at The Sala Institute. In this role, the successful candidate will report to the Director of Patient Safety and Quality at The Sala Institute For Child and Family Centered Care at NYU Langone Medical Center. The primary purpose of this is role is to coordinate the identification, planning, and execution of quality improvement and safety projects throughout Childrens Services, to deliver successful results, and spread changes within Childrens Services and in so doing build strong Quality Improvement (QI) and safety teams.
Responsibilities
* Consulting: Provide expert knowledge, leadership, mentoring, and service to quality improvement teams utilizing standardized improvement science methodology and tools, reliability science, expert level facilitation, and change management methodologies including team building, leadership development, and will building. Understand the aims and scope of the work. Identify and implement QI data driven strategies to ensure teams success. Provide expert knowledge, leadership, mentoring to patient safety initiatives utilizing safety science and the principles of high reliability. Confer with personnel at all levels to develop and coordinate patient safety program.Provide coaching and hands-on support of quality and safety work. Be present in areas supported; be able to move comfortably throughout the clinical environment. Provide project management for improvement and safety teams, strategic planning sessions, and other organizational meetings. Build improvement and safety capability and capacity. * Mentoring/Coaching: Develop connectedness with peers to develop a strong working team. Provide QI and safety science mentoring to the Project Coordinators within Sala to allow them to further develop their skills and roles in assisting teams. Provide coaching to develop strong team leaders including faculty and staff within Childrens services.In collaboration with Director of the Center for Patient Safety and Quality, in addition to other leaders within Childrens Services, develop, coordinate and present ongoing facility-wide patient safety education in the form of new employee orientation, annual recurrent training, in-service training to all personnel and one-on-one consultations as necessary to include risk identification, assessment and control principles and practices. * Reporting: Create and maintain timely and thorough progress reports that include key driver diagrams, run charts, and PDSA testing documentation. Provide quarterly updates regarding status of goal attainment. Employ standard project management methodology for tracking and planning of safety and improvement projects. * Portfolio Management: Be aware of projects across the medical center related to the assigned portfolio. Maintain and monitor individual and Sala Institute goals in portfolio to ensure that goals are met. * Data Management: Contribute to metric development and dashboard creation and maintenance to reflect the improvement and safety work within Children’s Services. Facilitate the development of strategic improvement goals.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications:** New York State Registered Nurse License with 5 years of professional work experience, including three years of experience with quality improvement and safety science methodologies and tools. **Preferred:** Masters Degree; Certification such as IHI Improvement Advisor or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Quality improvement experience with multi-disciplinary teams. Experience teaching safety principles and working within healthcare setting facilitating / leading clinical teams. **Preferred Qualifications:** Professional Experience and Qualifications:Leadership Skills: facilitation, coaching, consulting, influencing, building capability, effective oral and written communication and presentation skills, meeting management, change management. Excellent interpersonal skills leading to ability to clearly articulate ideas and concepts in non-judgmental and non-confrontational ways. Emotional intelligence, strategic thinking and planning, mentoring of faculty and staff at all levels of leadership within Childrens Services. Technical QI and Safety Methodology: measurement development, goal setting, impact/effort analysis, process flow diagraming, data analysis, SPC tools (graph selection, creation, and interpretation), high reliability concepts, change concepts, annual/90 day plans, brainstorming, systems thinking, cause analysis. Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
