Navigators Insurance Services (NIS) is formed in San Francisco, CA, to underwrite non-marine insurance for various insurance companies, including Navigators Insurance Company.
Responsibilities
* Adjusts and manages to conclusion litigated and non-litigated casualty claims under commercial general liability policies including claims relating to premises liability (commercial and residential), product liability, construction, construction defect, and other casualty risks. * Reports to Claim Manager, interfaces and interacts with insureds, senior claim management, underwriters, and insurance brokers. * Reviews and evaluates coverage as it applies to claims. Communicates coverage positions to insureds, including drafting coverage position letters. * Recognizes exposure and acts promptly to evaluate claims and report appropriately. * Works closely with counsel to strategize resolution of these cases utilizing creativity and technical skills. Negotiates independent counsel when necessary and negotiates to effectuate resolution among the carriers in multi-party litigation. Works with counsel and mediators to encourage participation by all parties in the resolution process. * Assigns to and directs investigation by independent adjusters including securing documents, obtaining statements and scene photographs. * Documents claim file appropriately.
Ideal Candidate
* Ability to communicate well orally and in writing. * Familiarity of claim and legal concepts and principles required. * Knowledge of computer software products such as, but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn and use on-line claim systems. * Familiarity with standard policy forms and ability to apply them to claim-specific issues. * Customer service oriented. * Familiarity with claims requirements in states beyond * Bachelor's or equivalent degree required. * 10+ years of actual Claims Adjusting experience including managing claim litigation and broad coverage issues. * Some travel is required primarily to attend mediations and settlement conferences. * State adjuster license(s) a plus.
