Global Curriculum Specialist

Learning Equality, a California-based nonprofit organization, is dedicated to creating tools for the sharing and creation of open-licensed educational content for use by anyone around the world, with special emphasis on reaching the 60% of the world that does not have Internet access, and those with limited-bandwidth, expensive, or unreliable connections.

You love to help people, and like to think deeply about how to serve the needs of a diverse set of key players in education: learners, teachers, trainers, administrators, technologists, content creators, and content curators.

You will coordinate with and support our implementing partners who do content curation. These partners will have varying levels of expertise in curating content for their end users. Curation may follow national curricular standards, incorporating localized content. Or curation may be done purely for the purposes of the partner organization’s specific mission. From the moment our partner curricular expert starts mapping content and curating content, to the moment their implementation is on the ground, you are the person they will look to for guidance, support, and quality assurance when necessary. You will compile resources on best practices and build effective documentation to support grassroots content curators. You will channel feedback to our developers, ensuring that the platform can support various formats and sources you have identified. You will also source relevant open content based on gaps you see in the curation work done by our partners. Your team also oversees integration and maintenance of public and private content channels; does high-level quality assurance; oversees licensing and legal needs; flags/spotlights content, and gathers feedback.

We are looking for core team members who identify strongly with Learning Equality's mission to bring basic education to under-resourced communities around the world. You will be working closely with the Implementations and Content teams out of our offices in San Diego.

Required Qualifications

• Experience with Instructional Design (particularly with designing/vetting effective content, organizing curricular standards and structures, and understanding localization needs)
• Technical and non-technical writing (documentation, guides, training materials, reports)
• Strong spoken communication and interpersonal skills
• Research and analysis skills (both for content discovery, and feedback aggregation)
• Knowledge of content licensing (especially open licensing, e.g. Creative Commons)
• Sensitivity to diversity of needs, abilities, and cultural backgrounds

Optional Qualifications

Learning Equality is still a small organization, and we each wear many hats, so experience in any of the following areas would also be valued (though in no way required):

• International experience (studying/working abroad, travel, etc)
• Education (e.g. teaching, tutoring, training, administration)
• Visual design / graphics / illustration / video production
• Multilingualism (in general, but a specific interest in Hindi, Swahili, French)
• Research (impact assessment, literature review, learning sciences)
• Data analysis (statistics, database management, spreadsheets, reporting)
• Instructional content production (authoring educational videos, exercises, etc)
• Familiarity with programming (e.g. Python, SQL, R, Django, etc) for data gathering and analysis
