Summary
The Instrumentation & Control Engineer is responsible for achieving world-class reliability on mill instrument and electrical systems. This individual is expected to be a Subject Matter Expert on troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation issues and have the ability and desire to pass this knowledge on to our E&I Maintenance Technicians. This individual is also tasked with being a SME on various process analyzers and specialized systems used for measurement and control in the mill. This individual will sometimes be responsible for assisting E&I Maintenance throughout the mill on electrical controls and instrumentation issues as part of an E&I training initiative. The individual will be a member of the Process Control Group and required to cross-train up to the level needed to cover PC Weekend Duty.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example and coach safety to others. - Participate in developing training plans and their execution for mill wide E&I skills development. - Be available to assist or lead E&I Technicians in analyzing, troubleshooting, and repair of failed controls and instrumentation. - Provide training to E&I Techs as the SME for various process analyzer systems. Also develop PM’s for said systems (e.g. MODO and FITNIR systems, etc.). - Participate in project implementation to assure proper instrument specification, selection, installation, and commissioning. - Participate in project development, approval, implementation, and management as needed. - Work toward process optimization through participation in the IEPM process. - Provide technical guidance to mill personnel as needed. - Gather information, analyze, and communicate analysis of mill systems and equipment with the intent to improve understanding, improve efficiencies, reduce costs, or improve throughput. - Understand and meet internal and external customer requirements while maintaining good communication between all parties. - Actively develop and maintain good team relationships. Treat others with dignity and respect. - Develop and maintain good record keeping systems. - Be available to work weekend/night duty as required. - Be available after hours to provide technical and leadership assistance, including startups. - Keep management informed on activities and accomplishments.
Ideal Candidate
**Qualifications include:** - Bachelor’s in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience - Minimum of 10 years Electrical Controls and Instrumentation maintenance experience - Strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of electrical controls - Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware/software - Ability and desire to learn Honeywell and Foxboro DCS systems - Familiarity with SAP systems a plus - Strong technical knowledge in various types of pressure, level, temperature, and flow instrumentation **Key Competencies:** - Customer Focus - Dealing with Ambiguity - Functional/Technical Skills - Integrity and Trust - Interpersonal Savvy - Learning on the Fly - Listening - Peer Relationships - Problem Solving
